So I’ve been put in charge of fixing a friend’s 3DS. His story goes that he was playing a game when the cart ejected, and now it won’t start up. I doubt it was in the middle of a cart update, as he seems to know better than to mess around in that instance.

I’ve gotten the 3DS to display the power off and retuning to home menu screens, but nothing else. My understanding is that the Home Menu itself could be corrupted. How do I go about fixing this?

My idea was using NTRBoot to boot into GodMode9, then flashing a CTRNAND. I’ve already tried recovery mode system update, with no luck. Any ideas?

Also, he wasn’t messing around with homebrew. The SD card’s clean.

You have no clue what you are talking about.

I would use NTRboot to install b9s and attempt a CTR transfer, then go from there.

The system boots, I can press the power button to get to the sleep mode screen. But I'd assume there's something wrong with the home menu launcher.
There may be a way to restore just the home menu related modules/firmware, but thats beyond my knowledge. Thats why Id ask a hardmodder. They typically know this sort of thing.

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, my PC can't run most AAA games so i wont

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

@SylverReZ, i think they have been doing that since late 2000s

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
