Daz works for Windows 7, but that install cannot be upgraded to Windows 10 for free, as Microsoft checks.

That is fine. I dont intend to go that far. i just wanted something better than Xp and Win 7 is amazing

Actually, a Daz-activated Windows 7 can be updated to Windows 10 for free. It passes validation.

wait. can it or cant it? 0-0? i dont intend to go that far. But it would be good to now this knowledge for future reference

I know from experience that it works and is indistinguishable from a Windows 10 system updated from a legitimate Windows 7 system.

Edit: Even a MAK-activated or KMS-activated system will successfully update to Windows 10 with a legitimate license, but the key will be odd on those systems. However, the key can be manually changed after the update using the command prompt.

hey i had that pc... installed windows 7 in it, i even put the starter or basic editions..
i had to roll back to xp, that thing was unusable in later os....

Wow really? i installed Win 7 ultimate edition and i think i will most likely keep my asus on this. I installed win 7 on my spare Asus Eee which i just had lying around. My main laptop is already on Win 10 (the legit way) so i am fine with Win 7 on my secondary laptop. I just wanted faster performance on my secondary laptop and i managed to achieved that. So i am happy.

You used to be able to. The original Windows Upgrade Assistant only checked if Windows 7 considered it valid. Later on Microsoft released an updated assistant that checked you key against Microsoft's servers to ensure it was valid. Now it blocks both Daz and KMS.

I know. I tried. I ended up just buying Windows 7 OEM for $30 and upgrading that to 10.

Daz-activated machines still work with the gatherosstate.exe method of updating from Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10, which is currently the only way to do it anyway aside from the Assistive Technologies method. I upgraded two machines this summer alone.

...I didn't know that was a thing.

Alright then.

Since Windows 7-10 iso downloaded for free is illegal. Which is the best linux to use ? There are several. Not sure which one. I want to replace Windows XP on my other old laptop.

Since it's old, try going with Lubuntu.
Put that on my cousin's 512mb ram laptop and it's much more usable now.

Also, it is legal to download W10's iso, and you can use it without a license, but it's very limited. But since it's an old laptop, I'd just go with Lubuntu.

What is this ? I already got Win 10 the legit way on my main laptop. (it came with a free win 10 upgrade when i Purchased it.)

I am guessing you gave me this link in order to update my Secondary laptop from Win 7 to Win 10 for free right? But what is this link about? is it really free? :O

It is free, Microsoft still gives that update out through that link. Updated my W8 tablet with that before selling it.

Alright then.
The gatherosstate.exe method is the recommended way of updating to Windows 10 from a previous version of Windows for free, and it also allows one to do a clean install of Windows 10 over the old version of Windows instead of an upgrade installation, if that's what one prefers. Last I checked, the Assistive Technologies method still works, but it's restrictive and unnecessary.

How to perform the gatherosstate.exe method on an activated Windows 7/8.1 system:
  1. Copy gatherosstate.exe from the Windows 10 ISO you'll be using to the desktop on the Windows 7/8.1 machine.
  2. Run gatherosstate.exe, and it will output GenuineTicket.xml.
  3. Copy GenuineTicket.xml to a thumbdrive and keep it in a safe place.
  4. Wipe any Wi-Fi settings you have on your computer. You do not want it to automatically connect to the internet after the update. If you use an ethernet connection only, just unplug the cable.
  5. Install a compatible edition of Windows 10 on the system without entering a key. For example, Windows 7 Ultimate updates to Windows 10 Pro. Installing the wrong edition will cause this method to fail. During this step, you can do either an upgrade installation or a clean installation. It does not matter which you do.
  6. After you're on Windows 10, don't connect to the internet yet.
  7. Copy GenuineTicket.xml to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket\
  8. Reboot the computer.
  9. Connect to the internet, and you will be genuinely activated with Microsoft's servers.

Performing this method of updating to Windows 10 for free is not illegal. However, activating Windows 7/8.1 for free through illegitimate means before the update is illegal.

Thanks. i just read through that link. So essentially it is a loophole that i can exploit if i want right? But my laptop is on Win 7 Ultimate which i activated with Dazloader. Will i still be able to upgrade successfully or would Microsoft prevent me from doing so?

Oh also what are "assistive technologies?". Is this for people who use things like "hearing aids?" etc....? So have MS essentially allowed people with difficulties to obtain Win 10 for free?

I'm pretty sure it should work, if not, follow Lacius's guide.

And yeah, it's for those people. They do indeed give it out for free for them, but since you don't need to prove you need it then you can use it anyways lol

Ahh alright i see now. I must have not seen your post before. Thanks i might consider this. But what do you think? Would i better of with win 7 or 10?
I just love how the performance on my laptop is alot faster now than it was on Xp. if this increases the performance even more then i wouldn't mind updating
since i am use to win 10 and enjoy it on my main laptop.

What are your computer's specs? If you already said them, I missed it.

On most modern computers, Windows 10 runs smoother than Windows 7.
