It is a great game, the best game on Wii-U but absolutely not the best Zelda. I wish it had a real strong story in the present, more like Ocarina of Time or the original Xenoblade Chronicles. It also lacks variety in dungeons and shrines. The hookshot, Heart Pieces, and flasks are really missing and could have improved the experience a lot.
The unnatural smog-like fog everywhere is really ugly and annoying and the game heavily wastes resources on shadows and lighting / shaders / effects that would be more needed for a more stable resolution and FPS.
And I do not like the open world aspect, you shouldn't be able to go absolutely anywhere right from the start, because you loose the incentive to do so. Like in many other open world games, the world feels very empty and you wander through completely empty landscapes most of your time, with absolutely nothing to do.
Despite claiming the opposite, the game is also very linear, many quests after leaving the plateau have exactly one solution that requires paying a certain amount of money to squire an item needed for progress, I wish they included more possible solutions like they did with the 3 ways to obtain warm doublet.
The game should provide an option for more direction so that you have a reason to explore the world, which should be filled with much more content that is actually worth exploring. Also disappointing is the fact that so many content is locked behind Amiibo DLC, almost half of the armor sets in the game.
And I forgot to mention that the small number of physics based tools feels very limited compared to the large number of special items and tools in the past Zelda games, it also gets boring very quickly and I found myself skipping most of the shrines because they are boring and the reward is not worth your time if you alreadyhave enough hearts and stamina. This also happens to most quest, enemy camps and battles, the reward is often so bad that you regret wasting your time and resources, especially since killing enemies makes them harder after a certain number is reached.
