It is a great game, the best game on Wii-U but absolutely not the best Zelda. I wish it had a real strong story in the present, more like Ocarina of Time or the original Xenoblade Chronicles. It also lacks variety in dungeons and shrines. The hookshot, Heart Pieces, and flasks are really missing and could have improved the experience a lot.
The unnatural smog-like fog everywhere is really ugly and annoying and the game heavily wastes resources on shadows and lighting / shaders / effects that would be more needed for a more stable resolution and FPS.

And I do not like the open world aspect, you shouldn't be able to go absolutely anywhere right from the start, because you loose the incentive to do so. Like in many other open world games, the world feels very empty and you wander through completely empty landscapes most of your time, with absolutely nothing to do.

Despite claiming the opposite, the game is also very linear, many quests after leaving the plateau have exactly one solution that requires paying a certain amount of money to squire an item needed for progress, I wish they included more possible solutions like they did with the 3 ways to obtain warm doublet.

The game should provide an option for more direction so that you have a reason to explore the world, which should be filled with much more content that is actually worth exploring. Also disappointing is the fact that so many content is locked behind Amiibo DLC, almost half of the armor sets in the game.

And I forgot to mention that the small number of physics based tools feels very limited compared to the large number of special items and tools in the past Zelda games, it also gets boring very quickly and I found myself skipping most of the shrines because they are boring and the reward is not worth your time if you alreadyhave enough hearts and stamina. This also happens to most quest, enemy camps and battles, the reward is often so bad that you regret wasting your time and resources, especially since killing enemies makes them harder after a certain number is reached.

This game made me feel like the (old)teenage I was when Ocarina Of Time was released.
Great epic adventure in a huge world (yes, Ocarina Of Time was huge back in '98).
I've never felt like this since, like I was waiting this Zelda game for 17 years.
Thank you Nintendo
This! Also for me, not since OoT have I felt like the gameworld was so magical either... the last time a game has literally took over my entire gaming time, ohh, yep we're probably going back to 1998 again! It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, in fact I can see more faults in it than I can in most other [lesser] games, but it's still awesome, easily one of the best games in recent times for me!

It is a fantastic game and it is really a free open world come after years with many open world games with nearly the same formula which promised freedom and ended in ticking a list of quest following a path on the minimap. Maybe there are a few shortcomings but the game does so many tings right in a new way that it deserves a 10/10. This game will be classic and in the future many people will be emberrassed that they thought this was an average game.
And I don't think that the world is empty. The game is about exploration and nearly everywhere on the map you can look around and see something interesting to which you can go next. Also you can find nearly everywhere resources which are really useful in this game. Maybe the villages are small, but nearly every NPC is interesting. I love the big towns in witcher 3, but did I talk to NPCs besides the quests? No, because most of them are just decoration. It is not fun to explore a townwhen 99% of the NPCs say just a short phrase like "hello".

On "not since I were a lad have I been so engrossed" comments then I do also have to ask how many times could you have let something do it, or skipped over it because you maybe lacked the time (possible uttering a phrase like "a 70 hour quest is not a selling point to me") or deemed other things more important? A decent open world game is something worth noting but you can usually manage it at least once a year in games of late.

it just sets a lot of new precedents
Care to elaborate on that? Everything I have seen thus far seems like it has been done before in various forms, and not even by random small games that only a handful of people might have heard of.
That is not a bad thing, innovation very much taking a place behind "good" in my world, but the claim of precedents is one I would question.

The longer I play the less I enjoy it. Mind you it took me about 80 hours of game play to get to this point. But upon beating Ganon I realized I had very little desire to go about mindlessly completing the shrines.

This game has a huge amount of potential through dlc if done correctly but so far the staying power has fallen flat.

I will say the same thing i been saying. This game isn't bad but it i feel it shouldn't be called legend of zelda. Had it simply been titled breath of the wild with original characters and story not related to legend of zelda series, there would be less controversy with the game. That is to say i would still play it as a unrelated game but not what i wanted in a zelda game. Again i am not saying the game is bad or awful, but i can't find how this kind of game fits for zelda game.

This would been perfect as a adventure time game or maybe even a possible open world metroid game with multiple planets to explore or even one huge one. Just some other ideas.
I feel like the series needed to change. I was getting tired of the same Ganon-needs-to-be-detained story and gameplay again and again, just with fancier graphics. Same reason I dislike the New Super Mario Bros series after the first one.

Twilight Princess seemed amazing with Zant, but then they threw in [spoilers]Ganon[/spoilers] at the last moment and it just went back to an annoying gut feeling.

Hmm i suppose. I find it strange, the games that don't involve ganondorf as main antagonist i disliked. To be honest i didn't really play zelda games for the story, nor am i a "Zelda fan" I just play it cause it felt good to play. But everyone has their opinions.

Oh I see. Yeah they're already in the right direction, they've done the open world system right, it just needs more refining, more areas like caves like you mentioned, and of course, the good old dungeons.
I'd probably enjoy a monster city. Just run in and take down as many as possible, kinda like the iga headquarters but with monsters and whatnot. Also kind of wish human enemies actually died instead of teleporting away and leaving their gear behind. I'd also enjoy roaming lynels and hinoxs, gets really boring knowing where they're not gonna be.

OOT feeling of adventure (relative comparison) and an upgraded art style similar to WW. Win+win and my favorite Zelda.

That is true about opinions. I find it interesting that you have this opinion but you're not a huge Zelda fan. Usually I would chalk that sort of opinion up to big fans that hate any little thing that changes, but if that's not you, I see it as having more merit. Is it just the open world you dislike, or the gameplay, or something else?

It's not perfect. Granted, I've never finished a proper 3D Zelda game (the ones with traditional gated progress/tools - get the hookshot, open up new areas, rinse and repeat) except for OoT. (Okay, I intended to pick up TP, Wind Waker and a couple of other games for the Wii U now..)

Enemy types are getting boring. Oh, look, it's a frost stone talus OR a spotted bokoblin. Yes, they require different tactics but a reskin is a very very very lazy thing. The difficulty lies in finding good gear/other stuff, which means that you'd either waste a good weapon on skeleton enemies OR get your face pounded in. Armour upgrades are pretty hard to find (eg. I ended up unlocking the 500 rupee Great Fairy quite late into the game...)

Well i played it for about two weeks, current progress, is 3 beast down, almost 3 stamina from orbs gathered from shrines, and hearts collected only from bosses. (Currently trying to complete korok "Fetch Quest" for master sword)

What i don't like is the insane difficulty. I do find it interesting idea and i'm not saying is a terrible game, just is not a Zelda type game. Had it just been unreleated to zelda series, it would probably be less controversy.

Now the things i don't really mind in the game are very little but the biggest problems i do wish didn't exist was Weather, Tempature, and stamina.

Weather effects from rain to thunderstorms. If it rains, is harder to climb rocks and mountians, which is what you do most of the time exploring. When it thunderstorm you have to unequip strong weapons to avoid electicution unless you have that gerudo helmet or those zap potions or some other stuff. (Still even equipping that helmet means changing stats of defense cause of the statitics system)

Second is the Tempaature, yes i know you have to find ingredients for recipies to cook to give heat or cold resitence or buy it from someone, or you can just equip clothing to resist it. But once again, it means changing your stats to something not really wanting to just to deal with somthing important. Instead of stocking up on heat/cool resit food/potion ingredients, you can just buy clothes. Either way there is sacrifice.

The stamina is the huge turn off. I can see why it helps with the realisim of things, I can't run forever, people do get tired and need rest. But is kinda like just everything to what you do. Need to run/ sprint? Use stamina. (ignoring comments about the glitches in the game) Need to climb walls? Stamina, Swimming? Stamina, Glide? Stamina. The 4 biggest things you will always need to do in the game requires stamina. Of course i know there is food ingredients to make with to improve the stamina situation but couldn't it have just been a bit more limited to what stamina may be needed for? In some other games, stamina is limited to running, attacking, maybe holding stuff or doging like. Probably just more combat based. I would accept having stamina limitations on combat than breaking weapons. I guess to be honest is perhaps by the way i sound is not really something i like in the game but is the thing you used most in the game cause combat isn't really a problem, exploring is the main focus of the game and stamina is required for all aspects of it, especially with such a big world and movement isn't fast.
I played open world games before, like Just cause, You can use various clevel ways to travel across places fast. A parachute with grapple hook to pull you around in the air like spider man is a fun way to travle. Perhaps the main focus of the game based on observation is exploring, trial and error, and difficulty. The game wishes to challenge players assestment skill and various other ways to think and have reflexes to adapt to situations. Is not a problem and i suppose is fair execution how is delievered. While i can simply say "Is not a zelda game, it doesn't play like one." Is not cause i'm a fan boy is simply just not what most people expected from a zelda game. I suppose is nothing wrong with a change to keep things interesting and maybe attract new people to the game, but there is just probably many fustrating parts earling in the game before you start to adapt to it.

Is a unique experience, and i don't "Like totally hate it" but i don't strongly love it. I like it enough to consider playing and maybe recommnding to someone who perhaps like seeking reward and satisfaction from deep struggle. Most of the reason why i play zelda game is the puzzle solving dungeons to challeng my self and how clever they have constructed it around the use of items you find. Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons are a good example of some exclusive items that are like that, the switch hook instead of hooks shot, the travel between time and seasons to manipulate changes, some others, especially the hero dungeon which is like the final lesson of your adventure. I like having nicely constructed things, no offense but i think the shrines maybe perhaps a idea of various people who help came up with ideas of thier own and just made over 100 of them instead of having a team construct one big one like the 4 beast dungeons.

Look i dunno if i should talk anymore, i don't want people hating me for my opinion on which seem like is not valid enough for anyone else but me, but that what opinions end up being most of the time around people who also have opinions and don't agree. I want to be able to share a opinion and not be ridicule for it, especially if is not a fact or "Not liking or seeing things the way someone else think i should" I had problems like this in school and i aim to avoid anymore of them since i have goals to make friends not get rushed down to no end. :ninja:

BOTW is the kind of game that I would start over and over without getting bored. Since the start you have the freedom to do whatever you want. You can fight gannon straight from the beginning. I beat the game by beating the story line now I want to start over and focus in clearing the game without doing the divine beast so I fight all 5 reincarnations at the same time. It'll add more challenge to it to my experience. It's an awesome game, the breaking of the weapons do not allow you to be overpowered in any given moment. Perfecting the parry already makes you op. you can deflect laser with a pot-lid.

I have always loved zelda and all of their previous games, but after beating the story there's only so many times that I can start over before I get bored. but this game is a different story. You have the freedom to do whatever you want, the fact that there's so many ways to beat a shrines/dungeons, side quests. you can climb everywhere. The game gets more and more challenging with every blood moon. I find myself fighting silver lynels everywhere after killing them so many times. You can mount them, and they even teleport. You can even ride a bear for all sake.

I hate when people critize the game without really appreciating how ambitious the game is in comparison with many other games. The game itself feels complete, and it's worth it's price. I'm more than satisfied with this game. I hope they port twilight/skyward sword to the switch as well.

The game is easier to play because of how much it's available in the internet. but trying to clear without the help of any external source will drive you crazy. 900 korok seeds with a very disappointing reward if you find all of them and discovering all 120 shrines is a challenge. I would have loved it even more, if they would have created checkpoints like twilight princess. and combine 120 to 40 shrines with mini-bosses.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. if you hated it cool, if you loved it great, but it's definitely a game worth playing.

Spoiler tags? Not all of us have finished the game.

Nevermind, thought you were talking about BotW, guess that was more of a general statement.

If I had to give it a rating, it would be a 9.6/10. The mechanics are great for an RPG. It's a perfect blend for complexity too. Armor has stats just like any other RPG, but not over complex that you need to level grind to use something good. I don't mind the weapons breaking often since it forces me to use other items I'd never try over the master sword. In fact, I feel it's quite funny things break often. There was a time I fought one of the mini bosses and kept throwing close to be broken items at it yelling, "WHY WON'T YOU DIE!?"

The only thing I'm disappointed about the game is the story. There might be slight spoiler in here to some, so I'll hide this stuff.
There just wasn't enough story. Sure, hunting down images to see who Zelda is as a character was fun, but I wanted more from the other Champions. It felt like the same thing happened four times in a row for each of these characters. It would have been cool if Nintendo expanded upon each of the Champions as much as they did for Zelda. Maybe add more missions before actually taking down a divine beast where Link works with each of the Champion descendants. While working with them and seeing how they act, Link would be reminded of what the Champions were like 100 years prior. Hopefully the DLC will fill this story void somehow.

All and all, I don't think this game will beat OOT for me. Too many memories in my innocent years for BotW to top. Although, I'm glad to see BotW will be for my younger brother as OOT is for me.
