Just why didn't Nintendo make a New Super Mario Bros. for the Switch? A Nintendo console at launch needs a Mario title!

I am actually surprised they didn't rerelease super mario all-stars as a free switch title. Could of had the ability to switch between nes, snes and wii u graphics for the 4 titles.

Should have ported Mario Maker over. Has touchscreen and motion controls. So, wouldn't be that difficult to still make levels.
Out of all the bells and whistles Nintendo added, changing the 32gb to 128 or even 256gb would cost from $1 to $10. It would raise the price for a tenner, but THEN people could at least say, HEY at least they got storage right! Got an 128gb ultra speed high quality sd card for my camera the other day from the high street (means online is much cheaper) for $27. That is retail, high street, in a form and case and packaging. Think about it. Storage is not expensive, but Nintendo could at least do that to rub it in people's eyes.
If it is not that expensive, I still don't see the problem. You guys seem to be willing to pay the extra cost, rather it is included in the console or not.

You seem to be giving Nintendo a pass because it's Nintendo and well, it's not really that much cheaper if you take into account other costs.

Main Nintendo Switch Pack - $299.99 (not including the Sales Tax)
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (aka the traditional controller) - $69.99 (based on the UK RRP by Nintendo Store)
64GB SD Card - $16.00 / 128GB SD Card - $39.99 / 256GB SD Card - $69.76

Total: $409.97 (without the Sales Tax but including the 128GB SD Card option)

All this makes it anything but cheaper than the rest. Sure you can just stick with the basic Nintendo Switch package but with games demanding to download patches, DLCs and more, that tiny 32GB will disappear in no time. The Joy-Cons are great if you have tiny hands and don't mind a not too movable analogue stick.

Edit:

Don't forget the USB-LAN adapter for the Switch, too.

I'm "giving them a pass" because no matter if Sony or Nintendo was doing it, adding more memory to the console is going to raise the price, period. Not to mention, you buy extra/more stuff with the other consoles too. It like saying, if you want VR then you going have to buy the headset, the camera and move controllers (and PS5, if you want the better VR experience), "See? It is not that cheap at all! You are just giving them a pass!"

At launch, the cost of the XBox One was $500 (with peripherals included, fortunately), and the cost of the PS4 was $399 (which, eh, if memory serves, didn't include any PS move controllers that have since become a staple, with their "revolutionary" DS4 controller STILL costing $60msrp. Not to mention that the bundle that included a 500GB hard drive, two controllers, and a game was $500)

I get that people are upset with the pricing, but it's ludicrous to assume that it won't come down over time. It's even worse to try to compare it with two consoles that have been out for 3 years already in a much larger form factor that have already experienced price declines.

Nope. Those things are essential to the console itself yet Nintendo will sell it separately unfortunately. You're a fanboy very clearly.

PS4 included the essentials which was the console (with LAN inc), 500GB storage and a traditional controller. Buying anything else was optional.

Gimmicks like PSVR and Move sticks aren't really required.

The launch lineup is bad, awful bad.
So the switch is 299 in US and 330 in EU. Its Region free. What stops me from importing? Any disadvantages?
Absolutely none, other than import taxes.
I don't know how it is in your country, but in Germany they rape you.
It would end up costing at least ($299+Shipping)*1.19
That is in the impossible best case scenario of free shipping: $355 -> €335

Do explain to me how getting a Switch Pro controller and anything more than a 128GB SD card (hell, more than a 64GB in some people's cases) isn't optional

These aren't "essential" things for everyone and again, if these things were included, the price would go up and people would just complain more about the price. You are just being irrational, and just don't want to admit it.

Yep. It's terrible. For the exception of Zelda which is the saving grace.

Buying from a UK retailer might be the best option for him.

Why would I choose this hybrid tablet over a PC, Sony or Microsoft?

Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo and grew up with many of their games and consoles. I was actually really looking forward to this new console, but these are just my thoughts for on the go gaming..

The New 3DS XL has a battery life of 3.5 - 7hrs of gameplay. The 3DS battery life is all right for the games it plays without any additional features. More than switch, though It's not a big difference. Switch adds powerful games, bigger high resolution touch display, image sensor, bluetooth IR motion HD rumble controllers that will require a power source and much more features.. Plus the battery is non-removable.. it will loose capacity over time like all other batteries. I guess it will be a plus for Nintendo for all the additional accessories people would buy..

I personally wouldn't consider this a hybrid and should've been considered a stay at home console like Sony, Microsoft PC.
I guess the only real reason I'd get one is to play Zelda.

Might stick with my 3DS for a while.

Don't get me started on the lack of games and paid online subscriptions..

The Pro Controller is a traditional controller that should be bundled with the Switch but won't and an SD Card of 128GB so that there's plenty of space for all the digital content to come.

These aren't "essential" things for everyone and again, if these things were included, the price would go up and people would just complain more about the price.

They are. They're not being included as Nintendo likes to profit more by selling their products separately.

You are just being irrational, and just don't want to admit it.
I'm not being irrational you're just being obnoxious in not wanting to admit that 32GB is a terrible amount of storage for a new generation console.

... help me understand why it would be better to have a traditional controller bundled in with it when that would greatly decrease the portability of the console and greatly inflate the cost. I mean, I'm all for having a traditional controller, but they've already bundled a joycon grip in with the system and if I want a Switch Pro controller I can buy one used later or get a 3rd party one

Once you get to try the Joy-Cons you'll know why they should have bundled in the Pro Controller too because that just isn't suitable for everyone and well, with a traditional controller it suits all customers.

Nintendo is going forward with the Joy-Cons having that "d-pad" and that's not something they're going to fix, maybe later but unlikely seeing they've set their minds up.

i dont understand the complaint about the controller costs, the joycons have the same hardware as the wii motes in both controllers plus extra tech AND rechargeable batteries. look at a xbone controller: https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless...dp_ob_title_vg its 75$ not including tax for the controller and the rechargeable batteries with way less tech. in fact the switch pro controller is cheaper than the XBONE S controller with a rechargeable battery too. a ps4 controller is 60$ not on sale and not including tax, while it does have a rechargeable battery, its battery life is abysmal at just 1000mah.
