tl;dr japanese - you are able to add/remove ROMs from the Famicom Mini, effectively CFW. This should also apply to the NES Classic. This requires no special hardware, just a USB cable and Windows PC. This utility overwrites the ROM in your Famicom Mini, so be warned you could end up with a paperweight.

USE WITH CAUTION DANGER ACHTUNG (article in Japanese)

Many questions, like, how big should boxarts be to not cause issues when adding games (does it resize?), why only the 9 slots, are you only customizing a set of 30 games or does this add potentially more than 30 at a time, etc.

This is very good news. I didn't expect it to be cracked so soon or so easily without some hardware or hardmod.

Apparently this has you install a driver through its interface (have to hold the reset button on the mini when you plug it into the PC), then it freely communicates and rewrites the nand on the mini to customize games. So the usb connection is open to all of this, rather than being only for power.

I'm not surprised it has been cracked, but I'm glad it has :P

I don't disagree, but at the same time, don't see a point beyond just to do it to prove you can do it. In a world where things like the pi exist, and are easier/cheaper to get ahold of, it's not a real practical thing to do.

The Pi can use better emulators, but they're not 100% user friendly no?

This feature coupled with a wireless controller (probably go with 8bitdo for their quality products), actually makes the NES mini appealing to me. I mean with the Wii U now hacked, its a little hard to be too interested in getting an NES mini except for the much nicer display that it gives compared to the VC titles on the Wii U. At this point, if I ever do come across one in store at $60, I'd be be much more tempted to get it.

I knew it was only a matter of time. Hats off to you, hackers. To bad you could just.. you know, emulated these games literally every where else.
I guess hackers just like a challenge or a hobby, cause i hardly see this to be useful since like you said, ANYWHERE ELSE. Android, Wii with homebrew, PSP, just like. "Oh that's nice, always great for more hacks. Just i don't need it but least there is one." Rather than "OH SNAP! LET ME GET THAT RIGHT NOW." To be honest, i still don't understand how popular this nes classic is unless is just a gift for young or very old people who don't really know anything about emulation consoles. But still the limit of games at once is far worst part of it.

What i see this as, is a dedicated emulator. It might not be the best, but it's the closest thing we have to playing NES games on real hardware without a flashcart, in HD. The feel of holding an NES controller in your hand, playing it out of an NES, is the main reason why emulation doesnt "feel right" to me. Not the morality of it, but because nothing can match the feeling of picking a game, popping it in your console, and playing.

Only issue I see with real hardware is fixing up the games (the save batteries) and making them look good on HDTVs, as old consoles look pretty bad.

There is zero instacart delivery to here. No door dash. No Uber. Notta. Its a small farming community

So I drive the 30 miles there, spend $100-$150 on groceries, and drive back home. Still saved $$$ after gas over shopping locally.

They passed a city ordinance last month. No smoking cannabis in public. Not even eating gummies. $300 fine and misdemeanor charge if caught. People can walk down the street smoking cigs and tossing the butts all over, but God forbit someone take a couple puffs of their medication.

First off, it's recreationally legal here. Secondly, I have a prescription from my doctor and approved by the state. But still a fucking criminal.

Like at bars. Cant sit outside even in the smoking section and take a few puffs. Yet I have to breath the cig smoke from 20 people chain smoking all night in every direction around me.

A Trump win is certainly a possibility. If he's reelected, 4 more years then no one has to worry about him being president ever again. I survived last time, I'll survive it if there's a next time. Don't know how anyone could vote for the guy, but I'm also not anyone else but me.
