I thought I should post this here because it has to do with Gateway and I would really appreciate some help with this:

Hi guys, I could really use some help with a situation... I posted this part yesterday:

"Ok, I am worried...

I read in another thread that using Gateway can lose/erase A9LH. I followed the Palect guide to install A9LH and Luma, but later removed my EmuNAND because someone in another thread a while back said EmuNAND is no longer needed with a A9LH/Luma setup. I still use Gateway and I still have A9LH/Luma installed on my N3DS. I am also on FW 11.2 I think. Should I be worried/concerned about losing A9LH? Thoughts and help GREATLY appreciated..."

My question now is should I go ahead and create another EmuNAND to be safe? If yes, can someone please walk me through going about doing it? I removed previous EmuNAND because someone in another thread a while back said EmuNAND is no longer needed with a A9LH/Luma setup. Now, I hear it is recommended to do have an EmuNAND. Clarification and help greatly appreciated on all this :)
Gateway doesn't have firm protection. Which means that a firmware update on sysNAND while in Gateway mode will either overwrite a9lh or brick. Luma doesn't have that problem, that's why everyone on Luma will tell you an emuNAND is useless.

So your choice. If you're not careless, you can keep your sysNAND-only setup. If you really want to be safe though, an emuNAND would prevent these problems (a firmware update would only write to your emuNAND so your a9lh is safe).

If you decide to make one:
1) backup your SD card (the one in the 3DS, not the one in the red card) files on your PC
2) create an emuNAND using emuNAND9 (the menus should be self-explanatory, but be sure to choose "emuNAND" and not "redNAND")
3) copy your files back on your SD card
4) boot in Luma's config menu (hold SELECT at boot) and tell it to boot to emuNAND (so Gateway and Luma boot the same thing)

And yeah, your NANDs will be linked but that shouldn't be a problem with an a9lh setup, except if you play GBA VC games everyday (in which case you reboot to sysNAND when exiting and then when you're back to the emuNAND, all the software you installed since the creation of your emuNAND is in present packages).

Ladt two day si read alot about using Gateway but i have a few questions left:

- How can i transfer the Savegame from an cartridge or fcia installed game to Gateway so i don't have to start with 0?

- Is there a possibility with decrypt9WIP for building a .3ds File out of the installed Games? If not is it possible to build a cia and that convert this cia to Gateway?

- How do i patch the privat Header to the 3ds Files so they are 3dz and online playing is possible?

Would be really cool if someone could help me with that 3 Question because then i can get all files ready for the cartridges to arrive :)

I have another Question about using the MultiRom Feature.
This means i can store as many games i want to. That's clear.

But on my System i have all my Games ripped as .3ds files. I usually use Decrypt9WIP for dumping my Cartridges.
But there a different options to use. I know to build a cia out of the cartridge i have to Choose to decrypt the Game and then create the cia File.

But what do i need for Gateway? Encrypted or Decrypted dumps of the Game?
I would dump all the Games again but i borrowed some of the Games to a friend and if i can use the .3ds Files dumped earlier that would save much time :)

And is there an option to use my Savegames from retail crtridge or saves that were created with the installed .cia with Gateway?
I know that i can extract the saves with JKSM and switch them to a retailcard or vise versa but can't find infos if thats possible with a Gateway Card.
Would be very bad if it would not work because i'm at high progress on many Games and don't want to loos the saves (e.g. Pokemon Sun). If it's working please tell me how.

Also is there any possibility to see if a .3ds file is Encrypted or Decrypted? What would happen if he tries to Decrypt an already decrypted Game? Friend asked me this because he downloaded some games from the internet on an iso site and because of this he doesn't know if its decrypted or encrypted Games.

I'm using a9lh with Sysnand 11.2 and Luma3ds or Gateway if that's important for any reason.

Hi, I have a few Gateway questions, with a9lh.
I'm still running on menuhax, I've been reading a bit that a9lh is better overall, and want to make the switch, but I'm not exactly sure how. I know that 3ds.guide exists but that takes from a 0 start point, and I have GW/menuhax.

1. Should I install a9hl with GW's installer? Or should I make a fresh install from 0?

2. Can I use the GW flashcart to run games on a9lh/Luma ? Can I still use the blue card for the ds games? I dont care about cheats but I would still like to use the flashcarts, I have a N3DS and its a pain having to switch the internal SD

1. Do not use Gateway's installer unless you want to brick
2. You can use Gateway with a9lh

Follow 3ds.guide then follow https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691

Having menuhax, Gateway, and emuNAND doesn't mean you can skip anything. It's similar to asking whether having a custom paint job on your car means you can skip steps in installing a new engine. They're different things.

Hi there

My friend has been using gateway for ages but his son has somehow removed the exploit so now it won't load when going into profile.

I read you would need to reapply by using gateway blue card. He has lost his blue card but I have a spare 'R4 sdhc dual core' card. Would I be able to reapply the exploit using this card so he can use the card again? If so then any ideas how.

Any help appreciated.

I thought I should post this here because my questions have to do with Gateway:

I have a N3DS with A9LH and Luma on it and I also use Gateway, but currently no EmuNAND on system. I am going to create an EmuNAND today, but have a few questions before I begin:

These are the steps I was told to follow:

1. Backup N3DS mSD card
2. Create EmuNAND in EmuNAND9
3. Copy stuff back to N3DS mSD card
4. Set Auto boot EmuNAND in Luma Settings
5. Format SysNAND in System Settings to unlink NANDs?

But, do them in this order: 1,2,5,3,4

Before I begin, I have questions on the following:
1. How do I boot into Gateway Mode after EmuNAND is created? Currently, I have it set to boot GW Mode by pressing "down" on N3DS system boot. I think it is a Luma payload, but not sure what that is or what it means?
2. When in Gateway Mode, what NAND is it running? Is it running in EmuNAND?
3. When in EmuNAND, how do I know I am indeed in EmuNAND? Does it say "emu" in front of system firmware string in System Settings?

Thoughts and help appreciated :)

Yeah, the order of 1,2,5,3,4 is correct.

1. You'll need to make sure you do "Complete EmuNAND Setup" and not the RedNAND option. And you'll boot into just as you have always done, by holding down the the d-pad at bootime. Assuming you followed the guide I wrote: http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/

2. By default, GW will always boot EmuNAND if it finds one, otherwise it will proceed to boot SysNAND, but will give you a NAG if you try to boot into a SysNAND only setup. If you setup EmuNAND, there won't be a nag, and you'll be booted right into EmuNAND.

3. While using GW Mode, if you press select to bring up the GW OSD Menu, you'll see it says EMUNAND if you have booted into an EMUNAND, it'll say SYSNAND otherwise. If you go into the System Settings it'll say GW3D in front of the System Firmware. On a SYSNAD-only setup, while in GW Mode, it'll just say "Vers." like a normal system. If you're running Luma3DS, and you enabled the patch, then it'll say "Sys" for SysNAND, and "Emu" for EmuNAND, but you should already have known that.

Thank you, I went through all the process and installed without any issues. Now I just have one more question:

1. After all the installation now my card has only sysnand and no emunand, if I understand correctly that's fine if I do not update while on GW mode. Is there any other benefit to installing an emunand now, besides accidentally updating?

Having an emuNAND would let you have more titles installed (ie you can have 300 on sysNAND and another 300 on emuNAND) and more room for DSiWare. You could also region-change your emuNAND (but functionality might be limited). Aside from that, and also avoiding bricking with Gateway, there's not really any benefit (plus it makes a lot of routine things harder)

I could really use some help with this...

Last night, I was trying to create EmuNAND and ran into a bunch of problems, eventually had to restore my SysNAND. When I did that, I noticed that I had an emunand somehow. I booted into Gateway Mode by pressing down on system boot, system firmware had "gw3D" in front of system firmware string. Thing is, that emunand has none of the stuff my sysnand has. Do I really need EmuNAND? If I remove it, how do I go about doing it? Also, will I still have access to the following in just SysNAND:

- Luma/Luma Settings
- A9LH
- Gateway use
- Use SC DSTwo

Help GREATLY appreciated :)

No you do not need an emuNAND anymore. You can copy your emuNAND over to your sysNAND if you follow https://3ds.guide and do the steps as described. You also will not need GW any longer. Refer to the post above by the other cat. You can use your DS flashcart, if you don't mess up somehow - there are some mistakes that can lead to ds function not working, but just follow and you'll be fine

I have all of my stuff on Sysnand and still want to use gateway as that has most of my games on it. Will I still have access to A9LH, Luma, cia/freeshop games, gateway and scdstwo usage? Help appreciated :)

So you have all of your stuff on sysNAND but want to use GW as this has most of your games? So copy the games over to sysNAND? Alternatively, there is a tutorial for using GW and Luma + a9lh, I haven't read it and I don't know anything about the process. But if you want my opinion there is really not much benefit to using GW these days.

Edit: I should link you that tutorial ;=) https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/

Or update to 11.2 for free, install a9lh for free (which doesn't prevent you from using Gateway) then enjoy your hacked system without any possibility for your son to uninstall the hack by changing a setting.
See 3ds.guide it interested.

Save games are stored on the SD card of your console, the SD card in the cartridge is only for storing games.
Ah ok sounds great.

And in which folder i have to put them? Because i only exported them with JKSM. Normally i select the game from the list in JKSM and then on savegame option i use restore save.
How does that work with the Gateway card?

Gateway have save files on the root of your SD card ending with sav. They are harder to work with. To import and export with JKSM you have to have only one (moving others off your SD card or into a folder) and it has to be named something in particular. Look up a gbatemp post about converting Gateway saves to cia saves for more detail.

Hmm sounds dificult. Do you have a link to the guide you mentioned? Would be great :)
And does that apply to my problem, because i have saves backuped with JKSM and want to use them with the Games i have on Gateway card.

The guide I'm thinking of wouldn't apply in your case, as it is converting Gateway saves to cia saves (most people upgrade from Gateway to free CFW not the other way around). You'd have to read the instructions and understand them thoroughly to work out how to go the other way. It shouldn't be difficult to Google for the thread (eg "convert Gateway saves to cia site:Gbatemp.net" should do it)
