Correct me if I am wrong, you mean I can setup a9lh to boot the latest GW emunand(not via menuhax of course)?
VIA Aureinand, yes. Not directly (yet)

I had 4.5 MSET previously and switched to menuhax for the autoboot convenience, since I never use sysnand for anything. Is N3DS a problem with A9LH or something?
Not at all, but menuhax is an ugly thing with a9lh. depending on how you configure it, I guess, but AuReiNand has its own trigger buttons for different things and menuhax can interfere with that, not to mention the boot rate is lower than mset. If you don't want to bother with mset, there's always Gateway_cia that puts an icon directly on your home screen for launching GW and it has the same success rate at Menuhax (because at the end of the day, they are both launching the same thing... the official GW.3dsx).

Is it technically impossible to boot into Gateway mode without an EmuNAND 9.2 for now? Maybe I should have SysNAND 10.7 + Emu(Red)NAND 9.2 on my SD card until Gateway officially supports A9LH?
1) You can still have a 9.2 sysnand and 10.7 emunand, if you want. Use AuReiNand's option to use firmware90.bin by default.
2) RedNand is different than EMUnand, and Gateway is not compatible, AFAIK (But... you could take the extra time to load the GW menu and tell it to boot into GW sysnand, if you really wanted... but that seems like a waste of time to me).

Well, I'm just comparing the parts from Plailect's guide. Apparently, following this guide, I've got more warnings for risk of bricking in bold font in the "getting the OTP.bin" part than other parts.
Because that is the part the user can fuck up the most. Flashing a still bricked emunand to the sysnand of the n3ds, downgrading to 2.1 on sysnand instead of emunand(this can be ok on o3ds its just not recommended as it can lead to a brick), updating from 2.1 with a cart(think this one is n3ds only), not having wifi on(2ds and n3ds only) but that's not really a brick, using the otp file from a system that's not the one ur flashing it to, tthere are prob a few others I'm forgetting. All of those thing can be avoided by following the guide, some people just like to try and take shortcuts when they shouldn't.

i have my 2ds and my N3DS with a9lh , and when u try it , you never want to back to Menuhax-emunand.

I said the same that i didnt want to change for the risks and only boot improvement , but now im so happy with it .

But if you are happy with Menuhax+Emunand mode...continue with it , we all are free to use what we want

Greetings

I hope the people who knows more about debugging, decrypting and reverse engineering find a bulletproof method that needs no hardmod. So everyone can downgrade as easy as baking a muffin.

there won't be EVER a brick-free method.

The actual method is really secure , only have to pay attention and follow the tutorial, and all ok.

All rewards has his own risks , o like we said in my country ....el que algo quiere, algo le cuesta ;)

greetings

i know, i have a9lh, is just that a 100% brick-free method is impossible, there is always that little margin of possibility.

Yup.

People need to realize that ANYTIME you write to the nand you can brick. It doesn't matter what you are doing.
Actually true on mobilephones as well. A colleagues Samsung just stopped working and it was the NAND that just shot itself. Apparently a common issue on that phone model.

Ya that's why I cringe when I see people who go crazy with flashing ROMs and shit to their phones.

It's true for anything with a nand

One of the reasons I actually keep my "3DS" on the sdcard is to preserve the NAND chip from sudden breaks.

Question about the 10.7 SysNAND/9.2 EmuNAND workaround for GW loading.

Since GW doesn't support booting into RedNAND, would using a 9.2 RedNAND (as opposed to EmuNAND) to load Launcher.dat force booting into GW SysNAND by default? If I'm going to go ahead and install a9lh without full GW support, I'd like to at least try to reduce the need for user input in the loading process as much as possible.

Wouldn't think so. Doesn't it have to load its menu up?
