NOOOOOOOOooooooo!!!!! I just ordered the Blue button one and is coming to me the next day.
I should of waited longer, this always happens to me, I get one thing and a few days/weeks later a new better one comes out.

They should discount people who got their older cards, this is messed up.

Nothing's impossible, it just may be not worth the effort. DSTwo is expensive, the install base is small, Nintendo just had a bigger fish to fry killing the R4's, so they focused on that and effectively made 90% of flashcarts on the market at the time inoperable. No flash cartridge behaves 100% like an original cart, some are just easier to block than others.
I thought they gave up because the DSTwo could just bypass the blocks every time, using its stronger on-board CPU, without having to change which game it was disguising itself as?
Other flashcards had to change the game they were hiding as to continue working, but there were only a limited amount of games that could be used for it, so they'd die down eventually. But DSTwo, I remember that has been Alex Rider ever since it came out.
And then I guess part of it is that they just gave up completely on blocking flashcards too, cause looking around there are other DS-mode flashcards that popped up like R4i Gold 3DS from r4ids.cn that's just been working ever since it came out (or something) and none of the firmware updates have blocked it so far :P

That's a good way to put it. It's a win win for them because people will buy the cart anyway since it's the only 3DS flashcart that works on the latest firmware. They could have made it firmware upgradable from the get go but that would have made them less money since people would only need to buy the cart once.

I assume they had to change the hardware to bypass the AP? Back when it was a 10 game limit though, that was just dirty. But I'm not sure they figured Nintendo would change how the carts worked down the line, and even if they did... I'm not so sure you could've just fixed that with a firmware update. But I know nothing about how the AP really works.

i think about selling my blue button one now...haven't used it since gateway works on n3ds.
the orange one looks cool, i had fun switching games by pressing that tiny button
for >9.2 this is a great solution if it works like promised

You can update software, but you can't update hardware (as seen with Sky3DS). The reason why other carts were blocked was not the headers, it was the save chips - they were blacklisted on the basis of that chip they shared. DSTwo uses a different chip, hence it was spared. Its powerful processor wouldn't help one bit if the components were blacklisted.
Considering the sky team seem to know what they are doing (as in, they are doing it themselves and not just copying another team), I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentional, that a team that clearly knows what they are doing (even bypassing the ap, even if it does need a new card), couldn't get past the limit. Until an unofficial patcher comes out, and just like that, suddenly they have a brand new card with no limit.

So either it was on purpose, or they released a card, fully knowing they were not going to support it.
It's really not as simple as you put it, but hey - at least they're innovators, not immitators. My guess is that they rushed out the product as fast as possible to get funding for future ventures - they were upstarters after all and made a cart that didn't require any software exploits, that's a big achievement that was probably costly to accomplish.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But when Nintendo introduced the 3DS the glasses-free 3D technology was brand new and the face tracking feature didn't exist yet. Sky have no such excuse, updatable firmware is pretty basic functionality and has been around forever.

But the thing is, DS flashcarts didn't need firmware upgrades. That feature became neccessary when Nintendo made the DSi, which was also firmware upgradable, which is why teams had to release a new cart for the DSi which could actually be upgraded to circumvent blocks. It makes no sense at all to release a flashcart that isn't firmware upgradable for a console that is, especially when Nintendo are known to block flashcarts in updates. If it was firmware upgradable they wouldn't have needed the two additional revisions, on the other hand the DSTWO and DSTWO+ have notable hardware changes that wouldn't have been possible with a simple firmware upgrade.
Nonsense, the Nintendo DS wasn't updatable, sure, but the software changed over time, not to mention several system firmware revisions. Upgrades came along long before the DSi.

Lol read the features again bro

I've read them already, no need to repeat. My opinion remains the same.

It's the only choice for 9.3+ users so can't even be compared to anything in that situation.
And for 9.2 or below users, a CFW will do everything that Sky does (except running .3ds roms) and it's free. On the other hand, you also have Gateway (if you really want to spend money on a flashcart) that basically does everything that Sky does and more since it's flashcart+CFW all in one.

my reseller i got my blue card from emailed me a short while ago offering/agreeing to trade my blue card to the new card for free. even if your reseller does not, you can just ask for a refund, sent it back, and order a orange one.

the free upgrade from my reseller is great and all, but will we be able to even use private headers? forgive me my blind or foolishness or maybe im just tired but with the new method, are we even still able to give our roms private headers anymore? thats my #1 concern right now.
