There's homebrew that might make use of the wifi. I don't like constantly using the wifi switch. There's possible wear and tear issues from doing so and that n3DS users don't have a wifi switch. They'd have to go into the home menu to turn it on and off which is a bit less convenient then the older 3DS design.

It doesn't really matter why they do it. What WE, as the user, thinks doesn't matter to them. It's their item to do with what they please. We can disagree with them and try to give a reason for the opposite. At the end of the day? Unless we decide to release something ourselves, it won't matter. I don't agree with the "anti-piracy" lie they've put out. .. but that's just me.

Releasing a .cia of homebrew is not piracy, though you do sign them with a (I think official) key which might turn some devs away from it.
Allowing users to download .cia's with a service like Download Me would definitely result in pirated cia's.

I personaly made my 2048 homebrew into a .cia (and .3ds) because I like not having to boot into cubic ninja (I can turn most HB's into CIA's myself anyways so there is really no HB I need cubic ninja for anymore.) and think more dev's should think about making a .cia version of their homebrews.

Ps. If you have a DevkitPro setup and the source of a homebrew (or just the .elf will also work) you can make yourself a cia, just have to google a bit to find out how to do so.

It does matter why they do it, if we can encourage more devs to make cia's that will make them reach a wider audience and give the users of their homebrew a better experience which I as a dev can tell is what most devs want.

...and that's all fine and dandy, but still.. at the end of the day, it's their decision.

I just uploaded 3ds and cia files for my homebrew, World of 3DSand. Hope they're useful to Gateway/CFW users. :)

Thankyou so much, it was great on the DS (it's on my blue card right now :))
Now it gets to live on in my homescreen XD Good stuff.

Glad some devs are here.

Edit: Yes, I could have compiled it myself, but being a bit of a dumbass sometimes I've had troubles compiling certain homebrews as cia files.
It is a million times more convenient to just download a cia for all users.

I was just about to say something to that effect, I figured the best part about making things like you guys are, is sharing it and getting positive, constructive feedback (maybe even the odd donation).

Exactly my point! (Though most don't do it for donations unless it's like eating all their free time :rofl2: )

This might be the first civilized discussion I've ever seen on the temp.
Thanks everyone for clearing things up a bit and explaining the odd thing or two, I understand the situation a little better now.
Here's hoping for a more solid standard for homebrew, and good luck to Rinnegatamante with his open source cia manager. Certainly a step in the right direction.

I just thought it was worth noting that as of now there is no way to have sound with a .cia homebrew. Though technically I can only imagine it should be possible I have not seen any that have sound and it's known that CSND doesn't work with cia's.
This makes a lot of emulators less useful and video/audio players useless.

CSND doesn't works with CIA? Why not? ORGANIZ3D in CIA version can reproduce wav musics and bmpv videos with audio :P

Not exactly, Blargsnes as of 1.2 is running on my 3ds from the cia install, with sound.
Don't know exactly how he did, magic? Maybe.

Check it out, it's really come along since 1.0.
AFAIK there's no sound on N3ds' with Ninjhax though. I don't think there's sound with the .3ds version either but I might be mistaken, pretty sure from memory (and I'm old so don't quote me) that sound on Blargsnes is only working on the .cia version.

Edit: Thought I might be losing my mind so I booted Blargsnes just now. Yup sound from a .cia.
I remember he wrote some stuff on that thread regarding what he did, I think it was a workaround while the DSP's getting RE'd.

:P

I also done the listing stuffs. Now i'm currently writing LUA code and making a good banner and icon.

It's so funny, because I keep going back and forth between working on implementing the hb: service for .cia files, and writing a legal devmenu equivalent, but I'm glad someone else is getting around to replacing devmenu.
I'd really like to see how home menu reads the .banner and .code section of the installed .cias. Would be massively more helpful if we got the app name(where possible) instead of just the id, but I dunno if I feel like digging through all of that asm any time soon.
