I just press romfs.bin and save it, like in the video.
just follow this if your having trouble
1 drag your .3ds rom onto "crtkeygen.exe" this will create a file called ncchinfo.bin in the same folder as your rom

2. copy the XORpad generator (launcher.dat) from the "For the 3DS SD card" folder in this download to the 3DS's SD card
and the ncchinfo.bin that was generated in step 1, then pop the SD back in the 3DS and go to DS profile, this will generate the
Xor pads used to decrypt the game.(this step can be a little buggy if it stays on "opening ncchinfo.bin" for more than a few seconds
reset the console and repeat untill it kicks into action)

3. copy your ROM and XOR pads here, leave out any CTR-P-CTAP.romfs*.xorpad files they are un-needed and may cause issues you just need
the 3 Xor pads for the game exefs, romfs and exh

4. run unpackv2.bat, enter your roms filename (may help if you rename it to something easy like rom.3ds)
go into the "decrypted" folder then "romfs",
have fun

thanks to ground for the neat and tidy decryption script, and everyone involved in making the tools
http://filetrip.net/dl?klFzuXHgmF

and you can start at step 3/4 if you already have the xor pads

basically download that file extract it to a folder, copy the rom and xorpads(miss out any that say CTAP in the file name) to that folder and run the unpackv2.bat

enter the rom name and it will do everything for you

np, there is no real reason for it to be complicated, a pretty simple 4 step process with a properly made batch file :P......i could probably make the bat file simpler if i knew the end user would only have the one .3ds file in the folder :D

really? i didn't know their was a more simple way to do it care to share ^_^

well the script i shared above is all in 1, put the xorpads and .3ds rom in a folder run and type name, everything is extracted, decrypted, dumped and tidies up into nice folders, assuming there was only the 1 .3ds file you could make it simpler and remove the need to even type the rom name by just using a wildcard i.e *.3ds

Why doesn't someone just post the xorpad so you won't need a 4.5- 3DS to do it? It's not like it's unique to every 3DS and has to be your own to work, as every clean ROM dump is by definition the same.

A. its against the rules
B. they are pretty much the same size as the rom
C. you need a different one for each game

Good reasons, but why is it against the rules? It alone doesn't contain any copyrighted content, right? (you need the ROM for that)

You have to use VGStream to convert them :)

EDIT: Here you go.

you can also just stream them without having to convert them you just need foobar2000 with the vgstream plugin

Thanks, work fine :)
You know some good tools to open the GFX files and change them?

Thanks, I'm gonna bookmark this for when I actually have a use for decrypting roms.

Now it does have a use! With Gateway 2.6b we can install .cia files to the big SD card in the 3DS' SD card slot, and the way you get .cias is by decrypting .3ds roms and turning them into .cias. So yeah, that's a thing now.

Ok, so I'm at step 3. And I'm getting stuck at "Opening sd:/ncchinfo.bin ..." it won't move forward. I'm trying to decrypt Cave Story 3D, and I've tried it trimmed and untrimmed (the rom) and neither of themseem to work. help?

Restart your 3DS and try again until it works. The older version is bad with handling threads...

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
