>kernel modeIt also states that there are flashcarts for ROM loading, but not a true hack. I think they would wait for Smealum to release his thing to officially declare it hacked.

But you can also run homebrew through Gateway. So either way it's incorrect.
So the ds is not hacked?It's not hacked.
Hacked = Running Roms/Homebrew Without FlashCarts etc
It's not hacked.

Hacked = Running homebrew.
Either way, the thread has to much information to be taken down.
And it mentions running homebrew in the thread, so i don't see what the problem is.
smealum never actually said he was going to release rednand.....just that he was considering it and decided against it as he didn't want to make a free easy rom loader as he didn't want to be involved whatsoever in allowing 3DS roms to be playable....regardless or not of gateway already allowing itI can run ARM9 via ROP Chain exploiting DSProfile Mset and ARM11 using Gateway's signature and checksum patching to load homebrew 3ds file built with makerom and using ctrulib.
Sure, there's no open custom firmware like Gateway (which is what rednand seems to be, but that's not public). That is essentially gaining access of ARM9 through mset, then disabling signature checks and loading modified NATIVE_FIRM to gain access to the ARM11 and run your stuff along side the menu.
It is a "hacked" though. The only public method for ARM11 happens to be unneeded DRM dongle. :/ Gateway has been reversed, but all the developers who have put in time to develop things have kept it closed source in the circle jerk that is #3dsdev. Smea has a new entry point for ARM11, but who even knows when that's going to be released. He said he was going to release rednand ages ago, and that never happened.
He is able to do it, but he won't allow that people pirate games... using his hack>kernel mode
>not a true hack
yeah i think the issue is that many people have a sense of entitlement to 100% free hacks and now think the word "hacked" means free for all, im actually expecting people to whinge that its not "hacked" because they have to pay for a cheap game to use ssspwn and that it doesn't let them load 3ds roms so its not a hackhacked means you can run unsigned codes by Nintendo! therefore the 3DS is hacked no matter how or what the method was ,wither it's an expensive flashcart or a software hack like a savegame exploit, etc.
.
that was the 4.x exploit....ssspwn is a completely separate hack with different limitationsHe is able to do it, but he won't allow that people pirate games... using his hack
nowhere in the definition of a hack does it say it has to be to a certain extent.....its simply the act of bypassing certain restrictions put in place is a hack....even if it was still in user mode only.....hell even if it was just for 1 specific game its still a "hack"Access to the kernel is a good start to being "hacked"
But access to the bootloader is closer to the definition, i suppose.
