1. Yes. And if it's a firmware version below 4 (min 4.1), then you need to update it to 4.1 - 4.5 using a retail game card.Welcome everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I'm thinking about buying 3DS. What else I need if I like to have the best functionality with my 3DS. I'd like to play 3DS ROMs and DS ROMs on 3DS, also play some emulators (NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, maybe even in the future there will be PSX emu), use Action Replay and Game Shark codes, play online, watch some vidoes and pictures and listen to music. It would be best to have 100% ROM compatibility. I've heard some flashcarts have problems with games like Pokemon X/Y. I'd rather like not to have any problems. I'd most likely buy normal 3DS (not XL) with Circle Pad Pro. What else should I know/buy to have these functions?
1. As if I'm correct I should buy 3DS with firmware below version 5 (max 4.5)?
2. Which flashcart should be best for me and will give all these functions I mentioned above? Gateway? Won't be any problems playing online on 4.5?
3. Will I be able to use all these functions with one flashcart or I need more (for example one for playing 3DS ROMs on 3DS and another for playing DS ROMs on 3DS)?
4. Is there anything more I should know?
Thanks in advance. I hope that I will be happy 3DS user once I buy it.
Here is hoping....if you dont have a japanese 3ds, you wait and see if smealum's releases his exploit and see if it enables region free
There's a program called EmuNANDTool that can do that for you. If you have trouble finding it, just ask, and I'll probably be able to provide a link. How can I dump or backup the emuNAND partition on the SD to my PC?
That's hilarious/creepy, I was surfing a homebrew site and by pure coincidence came across a page about emuNAND Tool at the exact same moment you posted thisThere's a program called EmuNANDTool that can do that for you. EmuNANDTool automatically detects the EmuNAND partition if you have your SD card inserted into your PC and gives you the option to backup and insert the EmuNAND.
1) Yes you can. I dislike doing it though since it's hard to take out the microsd card in my red/blue card.So I have a few questions. I just got a 2.0 3ds free from a neighbor. I updated to 4.1 and got a gateway3ds today.
1) Can I put ds and 3ds roms on the same microsd card and just swap it between teh white and blue card? The blue card IS for straight ds games right?
2)How do I enable multirom or select which game I want to play when I have lots of the sd card?
3) Should I update the emunand and back it up to pc so when gateway updates I have a emunand?
WHERE is the damn manual on how to install and do everything. I thought it would have come with something! Took me 30 min to figure out how to hit select to load a game.
I don't see the picture.Hi!
Today I received my gateway card for my 3DS XL PAL 4.5
And now I have some troubles.
I don't see the picture.
Try blowing out the 3ds card slot and clean the contacts on the blue card.
Yes, you can definitely do this. Only thing you might have to consider is that all your streetpasses (including Mii Plaza data), play coins, step counter data, play history, menu arrangement and purchase tickets are all saved in the NAND, and thus if you restore a backup, you'll restore all those things back to when you made the backup. That's hilarious/creepy, I was surfing a homebrew site and by pure coincidence came across a page about emuNAND Tool at the exact same moment you posted this
Anyway, thank you. I'm planning do to the following:
1.Backup the emuNAND (which is currently at 4.5.0)
2.Update the emuNAND to firmware 8 via Internet
3.Create a second emuNAND backup
4.Restore the original backup with firm 4.5.0
5.Wait until the GW team releases the GW firmware that supports firm 8 for emuNAND, then restore the second backup
Can I do that with this tool? Also, any caveats I should be aware of?
Oh, you're right. Can I get the emuNAND to download the latest update but not install it, so that I can update offline later?Yes, you can definitely do this. I don't know, actually. Maybe if you boot it in classic mode and then just put the 3DS in sleep overnight while it is connected to the internet, it might download the update.Oh, you're right. Can I get the emuNAND to download the latest update but not install it, that I can update offline later?

Yups, it works. You can also download the update from gateway mode (not just classic).I don't know, actually. Maybe if you boot it in classic mode and then just put the 3DS in sleep overnight while it is connected to the internet, it might download the update.
If it does this, though, then it will keep prompting you to apply the update every time you enter the main menu.
The only differences I know of are...If I buy a 3DS XL that has a firmware version 4.1 - 4.4, is there any need to upgrade to 4.5?
Are there any features that will be unavailable on Gateway with a firmware lower than 4.5?
The only differences I know of are...
1. There have been a few reports in the past with 4.1 not working correctly, but the last report was a long time ago, so it's most likely fixed by now
2. Some DS mode flashcards don't work with firmware higher than 4.3 (I believe it was Acekard?)
That's all I can think of.
