Someone give that man a medal!

Adam's team translated 723 lines
Big contributors to this team's efforts:
Sean for translating and proofreading
Adank for translating over 600+ lines
And to our very dedicated proofreaders!

2847 of 1000 weekly goal
8804 of 4000 monthly goal
Approx lines of Japanese left: 11258 of 34549

Hey guys, 67% is awesome, but I might (just might) have yet another Christmas present for you Android users:

I said might, because IDK if I'll be able to release this, I still have to make sure about the legal issues. So yeah, please understand that this is not a 100% confirmed hack release.

But anyway, in the meantime feel free to test the merged ISO in an android device using PPSSPP and report the speed you get. That way I can get a general idea how much optimization will it require (I know a Galaxy S4 is a powerful device, but it could be interesting being able to try my optimizations in an ouya, for example ;))

I'm sorry, I didn't get it.
What do you mean by legal issue with Android ?

Square Enix wants to release a f2p game for android, based in the universe of Type-0 (called Final Fantasy Agito); on the other hand, my video shows the actual game running on android, which could cause problems: If everyone could play it on Android, nobody would buy Agito, which I guess would piss Square Enix.

IMHO they should give us player the real thing, instead of trying to rip us off with a f2p that they say has something to do with Type-0 (of course, T0 was a stand alone game, they are now expanding it out of nowhere). I'm not saying Agito is gonna be a bad game, I'm just saying everyone asked for Type-0 and they are giving us the pay per win version. Well, actually, they are giving JAPAN that version. This makes me think... "Are we supposed to thank them?" i don't think so.

My guess is that SE wants all the players to play Agito, so they can charge for microtransactions. Would that happen if everyone can play the true Type-0 on Android? i don't think that either.

On the other hand, in some months mobile devices will all be powerful enough to play T0 in PPSSPP with no optimization hacks, so even if there were legal issues with me releasing this, it would be a matter of time until anybody could emulate Type-0. Then again, by that time, SE would have milked Agito enough, and they could release Type-0 officially on Android.

Who knows... I mainly did this to be able to play the game on android myself... I'll see if I can safely release it, I wouldn't like to put in danger the translation project or anything like that :P

The whole Agito/Type-0 thing is a bit like the Dissidia lore, in that it's a cycle of conflicts. Agito shows the first conflict while Type-0 is the last.

So it's a cop-out to reuse characters is a roughly new scenario while claiming it's a new game.

But aren't you "translating FF Type-0 for the PSP"?
There shouldn't be any conflict because T0 is a PSP game while Agito is a mobile game. (IMHO)
Being able to play it in PPSSPP is completely unrelated right?
I mean, you're not "porting" T0 to Android, you're merely translating it.
PPSSPP, a program made by Henryk and not you, is just a way of emulating it.

The game as it is in Japanese runs very slowly on PPSSPP for Android, Sky, besides translating it, optimized it (faster loading times, better memory management, less lag)... well, it's technically part of the translation hacking process (otherwise the Crimson Codex wouldn't fit in the ram).
But now, he is worried whether his optimized version could rival the "sequel" (which may be -given the emphasis on F2P- less good than Type-0). Now that Type-0 (FTP-free one) is now an option to Android users (which SE doesn't want it to be), it could hinder their plans to sell the riddled-with-money-absorbing-devices version if it proves to be more shallow (for one it's already confirmed it reuses cheaply Type-0 assets) or less likeable.

He already had the videos taken down from YouTube by Square Enix, so he definitely has got their attention by the time those news websites (Kotaku, etc) got their hand on the project news.

Now for my two cents...
If you release a tool (essentially a more glorified PPF patcher but with a GUI for different patching options) that requires both original unmodified isos (as they are ripped by the user from both UMDs/PSN version) to do whatever changes required (expanding, merging, applying the translation either as two isos or one iso) then you should be perfectly safe as far as the legal area is concerned.

And Agito's F2P and Square's greed have absolutely nothing to do legally with a patch applied to a psp game.

And a stealth release (as in unexpected/unannounced) wouldn't hurt. (Well, it would hurt me immensely from the pain of waiting without news, but it would prevent last-minute nasty surprises from Square's legal departement, and ensure the project is spread on the net, making any attempt to prevent it in vain)

Meh, it's as bad as the fan FF 7 graphical upgrade for PC. Games will sell if they're good. If Agito is more than just a P2W using assets from a PSP game, there will be people buying it.

At any rate, fan translations are somewhat in the gray area. As long as the method to patch the game only comes with the translations made by the team, there's nothing to fear IIRC.

PS: When I said translation, I meant romhacking stuff as well.
