Hacking Post the model of HDD's you've used with Dios-Mios

No one seems to want to take the initiative to make a compatibility list for hard drives for Dios-Mios (see note at end of post) so I decided to do this instead.

Just quickly look over at the hard drive you've got connected to your Wii and post the brand and size and the kind/drive name if you can. Turn it over and post the model number if it's not too much trouble, too.


Just what you know off the top of your head is great but all the information you can get could be useful, too. Useful info could include
- brand
- size (E.G. 500gb)
- model name
- model number
- separate power or USB powered
- Is it a stand-alone hard drive, IDE/SATA adapter, or hard drive enclosure ... or even a flash drive ?
- Physical size
- other physical description
- Is it working for you with Dios-Mios? <-- this is an important one
- USB 2.0 / 3.0
any other information you think might help someone else identify your drive would be nice, too.


^ VOTE plz It's interesting to see how much of a gamble it really is/isn't to just go out and buy a drive.


DON'T WORRY IF IT'S ALREADY ON THE LIST. JUST GO AHEAD POST YOUR INFO. SOMETIMES TWO DRIVES LOOK LIKE THE SAME MODEL BUT THEY'RE REALLY NOT. MORE CONTRIBUTIONS ARE ALWAYS BETTER.


If you later figure out it was just formatted wrong or something and want to change you're answer or just want to add more details about your drive just EDIT your original post. This will keep people from finding wrong info in old posts and limit the length of thread people have to look through to get info.

Oh, and please try to keep this thread free of any questions or answers about why a drive might not work or how to get it to work. That can be posted on the tutorial threads that tell how to get things working in the first place :

A list like this is a lot easier to read and looks a lot nicer but at least for me it's always a little confusing to edit (I'm personally always scared I'm going to delete everybody else's work or otherwise just screw up the whole table.) If ANYONE feels like periodically updating that when they have some free time with the information that's been added here, that would be great. I'm personally usually too busy to do so but it would be nice to be able to just scan the list and then look at the last few yet un-added posts at the end here.

I, myself, am using a transparent blue USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA adapter that looks like this

and it DOES work for me.

I have a Hitachi 500gb SATA drive connected to it ... but I think it's the adapter itself that matters in this case.

Either way I will see if I can look up any more specific model numbers or brand names on it when I get home and edit my post with that info.

EDIT : okay, I lost the packaging for this and there's no info on it. Google seems to indicate that it's PSI brand name but a discontinued product from them. No other info.

I'm glad you made this thread. Now I know I have my external set up correctly, but Dios Mios simply will not work with it. I get a blank black screen when I try to load any GC game. I have Seagate Goflex 1TB usb 2.0/3.0 external hard drive that just doesn't work (though it works for everything else on my wii). I've seen elsewhere that Seagate Goflex drives may be known to not work, though some people claim to have had it work, so I dunno if I'm missing something or what.

Now I have another 500 GB external its a WD (unsure of the model) and I try to get the games I have working (I only uploaded Wind Waker and 4 Swords Adventures as tests), and while they at least get to the screen with the Gamecube splash screen, the games still don't load. (though I don't think I ever properly formatted this drive, I'm unsure), even if I had, this drive is a beast thats nearly as big as the wii and needs to be plugged in a power outlet as well. Point is, I've yet to enjoy Dios Mios, and I really wish I could just do so with my Seagate Goflex drive.

I have one of these older Buffalo Drive stations. I think that is what it is called. Particular model of mine is large, requires external power and connects to USB2.0 through USB-B to USB-A cable.
Model is HD-CX1.0TU2

It shows on windows as a CD Drive device for it's now useless driver CD and as hard drives you have partitioned.
I use mine with TWO partitions in this case, first being made into FAT32 active partition and Second being NTFS for other data.
It DOES work fully with Wii games, and it DOES... Well for me as of writing, DID work with Dios Mios. But with Dios Mios it had issues of randomly hanging in black screen but I would say if you connect it to Wii and keep it there, first attempt to boot gamecube game would not work, second one probably would work, and all attempts after that should work until you disconnect the drive from the Wii again for whatever reason such as ISO transfers.

I have recommended this drive to 4 of my friends and we all have no issues with this drive. I can tell you from personal experience that getting the 2.0/3.0 version of this drive that has a usb 3.0 adapter (I believe it's the GoFlex Ultra) does NOT work with DM. I also went through this with 2 of the 4 friends, they switched out for the USB 2.0 only and all is right with the world. Here's looking @duffmmann.

This is not to discourage people from getting USB 3.0 drives as I'm in the market for one myself right now. All that really seems to matter is an appropriate/compatible adapter/IDE2HDD driver/device.

EDIT: I believe it's this one, although the price is a bit steep for a new one.
