I keep feeling all nostalgic and I wanna hear from you guys, do you miss having an dialup modem back then? Do you miss listening to the dialup working while you were downloading that picture you wanted? Do you miss playing those old games on your Win 95/98 computer?

I know I do.

I do no miss dial up, I only miss the sound for which reason I have a few WAV files with modem dial up sounds that I listen to every now and then...

I really do! :)

As for old computers, I don't miss them at all because I still run "old" computers. Atari XL/XE and Amiga, all of which I have modified over the years.

Given that i'm on and off dial-up as my erratic internet connection (which is slow anyway) dictates, and that the last time i used it was about 2-3 weeks ago, the answer is no.

And honestly the last thing anyone should have is rose tinted specs over dial-up. Go listen to ZX Spectrum games load if you want some retro sounds.

My netbook is a huge pile of cheap shit, so it's just as slow as my old dial-up machine was. I'm not missing anything, no matter how hard I try to.

I miss being able to sniff people's IP's from online games and send them OOB/Winnuke and do pranks like sub7 lol (I loved whack a mole...)

Other than those things no I really don't miss the past Internet or the computers. The old games work fine on Dos box and emulation. My computer sitting next to me can do everything those old PC's did and about 10,000 things more.

Do I miss dialup? No. I just had it 5 years ago, and frankly my current 768k internet bandwidth feels the same way.
Do I miss Windows 95/98 games? Yes, but there are 32-bit operating systems for that.

Finally someone who gets it, I miss those nostalgic times as well.
20 minute waiting times with tech support.
Using AOL's own browser because we were too PC illiterate to realise that Internet Explorer would be the lesser of two evil.

God that AOL woman's voice is burned in my memory as a symbol of all things wrong with the early days of internet for me.

I don't miss dialup, but sometimes I miss DOS.

As for the matter at hand I take great pains to avoid dial up* and will usually donate my time to get clients out of a position of still needing dialup (a few banks and other systems might still want a dial up connection for various reasons).

*grandparents had it until recently and even then it was only replaced with 3g which was effectively the same thing as far as I am concerned (connections still dropped all the time causing webpages to fail to render (quite painful on the modern internet when every bastard/hack web developer wants to use flash, ajax and badly implement javascript to the point of site breaking if it does not perform flawlessly) and more.
