That really wasn't made clear in the OP. The way I had interpreted it was that they were using the save exploit to communicate with the board and have it act as the storage device, but I guess having the overflow read from the SD card is a good step in the direction of homebrew.
That may be partly because the OP was written by a person who doesn't really know what he's talking about. (No offence intended, but it's true). He's little more than a parrot, repeating what he has been told and has heard from others. He doesn't truly understand what's actually going on.

Anyway, I just wanted to make it crystal clear that that extra hardware is NOT essential for running code via the exploit that neimod & yellows8 have created, it is just useful for them for developing the exploit and probing the 3DS further to map stuff out for creating a homebrew SDK etc.

I find that fairly impressive, as I am unable to read & understand Japanese, neither hiragana nor katakana, but I am able to understand & speak fluent Spanish. It also helps that half of my college classmates are Hispanic and converse in Spanish when they don't want the professor to know what they are saying :P .

That is more than I can say for myself!!!

Well, it wasn't easy, I'll tell ya that! :P living in Japan for two years and taking it in high school helped though.

My high school didn't offer Japanese, yet had Chinese Traditional classes, Chinese Simplified classes, and Taiwanese classes. Poor Japanese language(s).... you were completely ignored in my school....

Hiragana and Katakana are stupid easy. You can safely learn it in two weeks (a month if you're lazy/slow/busy). Kanji on the other hand... Kanji is the devil's language, sometimes I can't believe japanese still use this. In around 6 months of study, I'm still in the 1300 hundred range (but it's safer to say I only have full mastery over around 700). The language is very easy overall, the real problem is reading.

Are you for real?
The DSi has region lock, but imo the DS Lite was better than the DSi anyway, (a crap camera v GBA slot....GBA slot wins) so region lock was not an issue last generation.
Now, with the eShop, and the fact people travel with their handheld (gosh!), the region lock is quite problematic.

I am moving to Canada in 2 months, and I don't fancy importing expensive games from the EU just to play on my 3DS, and I also have a Netflix account that I can't use on it just because of a tiny amount of code in some deep dark crevice in the device.

Oh, and on a side note, some people may want to be able to give it media functionalities, so I can play longer than a 10 minute clip, listen to music, and use Youtube. You know... functions that a £40 PSP Phat has, even when vanilla.

So get off your high horse, and stop judging 'everyone' on what they want.

Ouch, moving to Canada? Tell me how that goes.
However, importing games to Korea which has far harder times with shipping then Europe to Canada. I did, so can you (I really wish I just forked over the money for a Korean one now.... so many missed opportunities).
I would like nothing more than everything the Wii got with homebrew, including the region changer (I'd fancy buying a second 3DS and region changing it) but I'm no dev.

Can't wait for more updates on this thing though. I swear this thread was made for flamewars.

Don't forget the exceptions in grammar, ichidan/yodan verbs and you think one verb is one but is actually the other. To say the language is dead easy is somewhat of an understatement.

By ROMs, I was under the assumption that he hopes we never get to play 3DS ROMs on the 3DS, which I agree with.

That's stupid, we WANT free games. That's like saying: "I hope Netflix never becomes hacked for free."

So are you, hahahahaa. BUT YOU'RE ALSO A BUNNY. And that's actually really dunny, I'm thinking of getting a MaCaw. They live 60-80 years. O.O

I'm not saying it's dead easy (I said overall, as you quoted), english is much easier. But Japanese is way easier than it looks like and comparing it to portuguese or french? Yes I find it a very easy language. I'm entitled to an opinion ;D.

We should also not stray so much from the topic '-'. PM me if you want to =).

I'm going to move all of the information to my blog I just made. It's SOOOOO much easier to edit and organize stuff there. So all of you complaining about how much of an eyesore it is can see it much more organized then! And hopefully yellow and then release some more info soon-I haven't talked to them in a bit. haha

I literally have no idea what I just read.
He said not only do you not really know what you're talking about, but you're also a bunny. He thinks this is funny, and birds live a long time.

Well there you have it. Welcome to the anthropomorphic world where you are a bunny, I am a cat, and he is feather brained. For guidance on how to use your newfound enlightenment, seek out our resident furvert.

Do you even have a DSi? Nintendo DSi Shop, 16 MB Ram, SD Card slot, free applications (like Zelda four swords, flipnote Studio and DSi Sound), WPA etc.

Why would I need an SD card for the DSi? I don't like paying double the price for a digital download, I would rather buy the game itself, for cheaper.

Free application? I have the GBA Cart for Four swords and it fits right into my Lite, and flipnote and sound are just gimmicks at best, hardly console sellers.

WPA is handy, but I just broadcast a WEP encrypted network just for my DS from my computer, if you go out and about (e.g. airports) then everywhere still uses WEP or is insecure anyway.

Along with that, the DS Lite has a much better battery life.

But you know that there are no retail downloads for the DSi? And I don't know any retail DSi game that's 8€ or cheaper.
With Sudokuhax, Grtpwn or something like that, it's possible to play DSi Homebrew off the SD card.
For the battery life, ther's a difference of about one hour (Retail game (Sonic Rush); WiFi turned off; Full Brightness; no Volume; Source: GBATemp
The Flipnote Studio is very good (and with Flipnote Hatena even better). I downloaded serveral flips and there are very good ones like "Walk on Water" (I'm not sure about the original title but that's the name of the song) by Jerm.
I used the DSi Sound application as "AAC-Player" until I got a 3DS! It has a good sound quality (better than the DS lite's).
The GBA version of Four Swords didn't support singleplayer and it's not for free!
WEP isn't save and you shouldn't use it very often.

I'm not denying it has some nice little additions, but none of it outweighs the GBA game library. No idea why they dropped the slot...
