Here's some news: emulation uses ROMs. It is also piracy, just piracy of older systems.
I'm already fully aware of that. I don't know why you even mentioned that, as I didn't even mention the word piracy in my original post.

His point was that he didn't want to play ROMs.
Legal or not, a NES/GB/GBC/SNES ROM is a ROM.
No, that wasn't my point.

You see, first of all I don't care whether it's illegal or not. I do things by my morals. I think it's morally wrong to pirate a game that is still in physical production that most people would have to pay for. I don't think it's morally wrong at all to download some old-ass NES/GB/GBC/SNES/GBA game. I don't care if they're both legally the same offense, and I don't care if you view it as the same offense from a moral point of view, because in my moral point of view, there's nothing wrong with downloading some old-ass game that you can't obtain anyways, nor do I see anything wrong with downloading ROMs of games you already own. I don't care if they're both illegal and both considered the same offense. I don't view it that way, and that's just how it is.

I know that there will never be an end to the piracy/anti-piracy debate. And really, if you actually read my original post, I never attacked the pro-piracy people at all. All I did was say that I bought all of my DS games, and I am going to buy all of my 3DS games, and apparently you have a problem with me doing that just because I like to pirate old-ass NES/GB/GBC/SNES/GBA games.

Let me re-quote my point, and bold and underline the relevant text:

I'm only interested in this because of the emulation possibilities of the 3DS. Fingers crossed for full resolution NES emulation, GB/GBC emulation(with any SGB border you want, like in Goomba), and full resolution SNES emulation...

Let me put this in simple terms for you:

If you want to emulate NES/GB/GBC/SNES on 3DS, you will be playing ROMS on your 3DS.

So how can you say that you do not want to play ROMS on your 3DS.

There is a logical flaw in that post that you seem to miss entirely.

By ROMs, I was under the assumption that he hopes we never get to play 3DS ROMs on the 3DS, which I agree with.

I don't care if he meant something else, because I made my post under what I interpreted. So for clarification on what I meant, not what Valwin meant, allow me to say this:
I hope we get to play ROMs on the 3DS (just not 3DS ROMs, yeah idgaf if you disagree with that last part)

Not a probs. I was just clarifying.

I only want the hack to just make my 3DS region free. I'm not interested in ROMS or whatsoever, I just want to use games from other regions on my portable!

lol - bottom line.. playing old ROMs or new ROMs is the same thing... go still someones old car and tell them at least it wasnt a newer model car.. I would never still that car if it was new! LOL I need the 3DS hacked asap so my kids can stop bleeding me dry on these pricey games!

I know, I'm just laughing at everyone saying 'we only want region free!' when hardly anyone only used that on any other hacked console.
Are you for real?
The DSi has region lock, but imo the DS Lite was better than the DSi anyway, (a crap camera v GBA slot....GBA slot wins) so region lock was not an issue last generation.
Now, with the eShop, and the fact people travel with their handheld (gosh!), the region lock is quite problematic.

I am moving to Canada in 2 months, and I don't fancy importing expensive games from the EU just to play on my 3DS, and I also have a Netflix account that I can't use on it just because of a tiny amount of code in some deep dark crevice in the device.

Oh, and on a side note, some people may want to be able to give it media functionalities, so I can play longer than a 10 minute clip, listen to music, and use Youtube. You know... functions that a £40 PSP Phat has, even when vanilla.

So get off your high horse, and stop judging 'everyone' on what they want.

Do you even have a DSi? Nintendo DSi Shop, 16 MB Ram, SD Card slot, free applications (like Zelda four swords, flipnote Studio and DSi Sound), WPA etc.

Incorrect. It's the reason why I hack all my region locked consoles or cave in and buy a japanese console. These just SOME of the imports I was able to fit on this desk.

I'm a big fat SRW fan, so as soon as UX was announced I knew I had to have it so I had to hack my 3DS (same reason I hacked Wii). That doesn't mean I don't play backups, I just do it for a few games

The only question I have is this: Can you actually read the text in those games???
I don't speak for everyone on these forums, but I am able to read and speak Japanese just fine. I've my share of import games.

I too want the 3DS to get rid of that invasive, asinine region locking. It forces people to spend more than they should, it makes customers suffer to no end. Region locking be damned, who gives a f**k what Nintendo thinks about it? I also look forward to a decent port of Snes9x, because why should I have to wait till 2015 before Nintendo puts Snes on the Virtual Console?

I find that fairly impressive, as I am unable to read & understand Japanese, neither hiragana nor katakana, but I am able to understand & speak fluent Spanish. It also helps that half of my college classmates are Hispanic and converse in Spanish when they don't want the professor to know what they are saying :P .

I memorize the menus after some experimenting.

But sometimes I just look at gamefaqs but for most of these games everything is straight forward.
That is more than I can say for myself!!!

It's probably worth pointing out the working hack right now is using hardware that costs a lot more than the cost of importing a foreign console. The save hack is on a retail cart, but all the interfacing with the unit is through a $400-$600(depending on student discount) Altera Cyclone IV DE2 or something in the same model range. You could even have it overnight or two day shipped and you would still come out ahead.

yellows8 has stated that he is not using any extra hardware in his case. neimod is, sure, but yellows8 is not. That hardware is used to help map out the 3DS; it is not essential for running code.

That really wasn't made clear in the OP. The way I had interpreted it was that they were using the save exploit to communicate with the board and have it act as the storage device, but I guess having the overflow read from the SD card is a good step in the direction of homebrew.
