J2ME or Java 2 Mobile Edition would certainly be cool on the Nintendo DS. It was made to run Midlets (Low resource java applications) on low resource systems like cell phones and so on and theres literally thousands of games and applications out there written for the J2ME. I beleve it should be possible and the Nintendo DS has more then enough resources to handle J2ME.

The source for J2ME is available under the GPL I believe.

A user ported a basic Java runtime environment to the DS, not the J2ME though. It could perhaps be a good starting point.

I don't think it would be that cool, most java apps would be useless on the ds or have a much better equivalent, and ds homebrew does a much better job.

There was a project to port J2ME, but it's long dead

Yeah, I still have it in the hope that someone will restart it.
narin, get someone to do it because you already have the compilation.
Good job by the way, I was waiting for someone to make a thread for this.
After this someone will make a NDS game making version of scratch
YAY!
