Xseed revealed their mysterious PSP horror game today, and as many suspected, it is indeed the original Corpse Party. Corpse Party follows students in Kisaragi High School. Their school was built on top of an elementary school that was torn down following a series of murders. Now, they have to deal with a school filled with corpses and ghosts.

Something Xseed mention that we hadn’t heard before is that Corpse Party features simulated 3D surround sound. They recommend playing with headphones on. The game will retain its Japanese voice-track.

Decisions you make in the game will change the outcome of the story, and Xseed say there are no “Game Over” screens. You can watch the game’s Japanese opening movie here. Corpse Party is slated for release sometime this fall as a PlayStation Network download.[/p]Source

Wasn't posted. Bad GBAtemp, I hope you all get invited.

The 3D sound has been used in a few games before if I can recall correctly, and that new 3DS game by Capcom also has it. (The trailer sounds awesome with headphones.) I really like that feature - I hope more games will use it - especially horror games.

This one looks interesting - I can't wait to try it out.

This seems a little silly. I'm half expecting that one of the characters will be based off of Will Smith, offering witty one liners about the situation every five minutes.

"Let's get this corpse party started!", "A party? With corpses? Aw hell naw!", etc.

That's not Will Smith, that's that one black guy from that recent House of the Dead game.

No, but going by the premise... Yeah, silly. A haunted school filled with generic Creepy Dead Children from the sounds of it.

And machomuu, no. If it was Detective Washington, there would be a thousand more f-bombs.

As long as the story is good, I'll try it out. But Famitsu only gave it 7/7/7/7 so.......

I'm not one to base my purchase of something based solely on the opinion of a critic, but 999 did get a perfect score......

IIRC 999 scored 36 but one of their previous games scored 40 (428: F?sa Sareta Shibuya de)

In fairness Famitsu speak a lot of shit.

Gameplay-wise, it's a lot like Shadow of Destiny -- it's basically an RPG without battles. You go around examining things, talking to people (ghosts, in this case), picking up items, flipping switches, etc., and the story advances based on the decisions you make -- not just multiple-choice decisions, but also decisions on which rooms to enter and which to avoid, which objects to examine and which to avoid, what order things are done in, etc. And it's not like if you make the wrong decision, you just generically die and get a game over... no, in this game, every single death is a unique, drawn-out, horribly disturbing ending, and the sheer variety of ways in which you can die (and how long those deaths last, making you more and more uncomfortable by the second!) is pretty staggering.
