I'm hacking my vwii today and want to know which to buy for backup gamecube and wii games XHDD or SDXC; is there any significant difference between the two choices for my purposes? Do both storage media work with the same loaders in the same way? If the WiiU is ever hacked, would the XHDD be a better option because of nintendo locking out SD? Thanks.

HDDs are cheaper and bigger then SDs, but most external HDDs without an own power supply need a y-cable to work, because the WiiU USB ports dont provide enough power to make them work on only 1 port
If you only have a small game libarary, that would fit on a SD and you already have one anyway, you can just take a SD and then reserve your HDD for WiiU mode, is it has its own file system, so you cannot use 1 HDD for both WiiU and vWii
but if you have a big game library and need alot of space, then probably a HDD would be much cheaper
