I'm not good with picking parts, but I came up with this. about $550 (without mail in rebates which I'm not interested in) so not too bad, but I'd like some advice or input on if this is worth the price or not. Thanks

btw this is for gaming, of course its not going to max out games, but I'm currently on a laptop, so any upgrade is going to be nice for me.

For that price point, it's not bad. Shouldn't have a problem playing any games.

Why would you waste money a dual-core i3? A FX 6300 would perform MUCH better, especially since new games are becoming better threaded.

Also, the 750 Ti is for filthy casuals. Save your money and get a R9 270X instead.

i3 and FX-6xxx go neck to neck for gaming. Neither one beats the other one significantly. i3 has an advantage on emulation.

I found another build which is about $100 more ( a bit out of my price range for a base build) but seems to do a lot better

Get a better motherboard, M5A97 is a crappy motherboard with VRM exposed. For power hungry CPU such as FX, you need to make sure VRM is sufficiently cooled.
