since the ds is that awesome you could buy now and trade it in when the new one comes out

Edit: besides since the ds lite is still that popular nintendo wouldn't have to release this "new ds" till like the next handheld comes out just like that gba thing they came out with *i forget the name*

Everyone seems to forget how soon the DS Lite followed the DS Phat. It was only a year and half later that it came out. The DS still has plenty of life in it. It is immensely popular pretty much everywhere and based on it's sales there is a good chance that it could outlive the GBA. The install base for games is huge. The next DS will be another redesign with a shinier screen and a smaller body.

Show me a consumer electronics product that fails to get smaller with each iteration. It's the way of the future it seems. Guess your going to need to evolve smaller hands.

I just gave plenty of reason as to why the next DS won't be a new platform, so I will try not to repeat myself. Nintendo has absolutely no reason from a business perspective to move to a new hand held. Quite literally everyone and their mother has a DS in Japan. It was sold out everywhere in Japan for almost a year after launch. The DS is currently selling better than the GBA did during it's time. Last time I checked the GBA had three iterations and was slightly less popular. It took a little over a year and half for the SP to make it's debut, and about two years later the Micro was shown. The DS is three years old, and has at the very least one more year in it's lifespan. Chances are Nintendo would rather continue building it's userbase rather than start at nothing again. Game developers avoid the PS3 like the bubonic plague because it's game attach rate is so low and it's difficult to turn a profit. Sony still has loads of people buying the PS2 and tons of developers still making games for it because there are so many people that already have one. Nintendo makes the transition softer by offering backwards compatibility. By the final iteration of the GBA backwards compatibility had completely left the equation. Therefore I hypothesize that the next DS will not have a second slot.
