I thought I was the only one that did this, but yeah the search engine on this site needs an overhaul and maybe topics like this would cease to exist.

This thread is a good example of why it is often easier and quicker to just answer the question in the first place.

USB HDD support requires an IOSU exploit which we don't have yet. This may appear, but nobody knows when so just buy a nice big 128GB SD card.

You say this like large SD cards are cheap (good ones at least.) The price you pay for a given SD card can get you 10x more space on an external HDD. I'd rather wait it out rather then get impatient and settle for an overpriced card for less space.

My point still stands that you can get significantly more room with an external drive than you would an SD card. If money is no object to someone then they can go for it but just two months ago I bought a 4TB external drive for $90. I'll take a picture of the receipt if you need proof.

Do you guys think that the WiiU will support backups loading from external HD anytime soon ?

The wii u has supported this from day one.
Download your digital content to your wii u internal mem. then copy it to your hdd. It will load that backup just fine. (you should be more descriptive....lol) I have never had any problems loading my backup digital content before so I would say the support is pretty good.

It would be awesome for you to share a link. Closest thing I could find was called Mobidapter and I am not even sure if this plugs into the Sd card slot...

You can load games off of USB HDD right now.

All you need is to get an SD to USB connection adaptor. It costs about 40-50 bones shipped, you can then plug your SD adaptor into your Wii U then connect your USB HDD to your adaptor. You get extra storage, but you are still limited to SD speeds.

Full USB support can take another year or 4 years or forever. There is no answer "SOON" can be tomorrow can be 10 years later.

Remember full CFW was supposed to be SOON on the Vita, but it will mostly likely never happen. Also full CFW (a9lh) just came to be on 3DS, and that scene has been going on for ages. SOON is tantamount to never in any scene.

I don't disbelieve you.

I'm just saying you can't use a HDD, so £25 for 128gb SD is worth it for heaps of games right now.
