I have this old Wii Modded with a WiiKey, are they worth anything? Im pretty sure it is also Software Modded if I remember correctly I could play Backup Discs or from a USB hard drive.

Not really useful nowadays, since you can softmod your Wii and load games via a hard drive. It's also worth pointing out that if you have installed a later System Menu, then the WiiKey wouldn't recognise burnt discs anymore because the trucha bug was patched out.

Thanks for the quick reply SylverReZ I havent touched these Wiis in years, but like I know there are nerds like me that just love preserving the old modding tech.. Just curious of the value of something like this. Would it be better to desolder it and offer it seperatly? if I even did that can the wii just have the system updated from the net and just act like a normal wii again? Its been so long since I looked into any of this stuff.

It does have like USB Bootloader or something like that on it where I could play games from a hard drive.

It's not worth anything other than to a collector, realistically.

The firmware for these chips have been dumped and clones can be easily made.

What do you mean?? I'm confused.
Like it was using the Wiikey to play burned games, but I also did the software mod later on that allowed me to load games from an external hard drive via the USB ports, so it was modded both ways.. So I didn't have to burn the discs anymore. But could continue to play all the games I had discs for already.

Ill put it back together and boot it up so I can take a picture of whats on it.

If you've got some degree of soldering experience, then you can remove the WiiKey and store it somewhere safe, as you don't need it anymore if its already softmodded. They're useful for repairing bricked systems, as long as the drive chipset is DMS to D2B.

If its on an older System Menu, then you can connect and update the console to 4.3, as well as everything else (including cIOS).

Updating the System Menu isn't generally necessary, but thats up to you.

I also have another one modded with I think it was called the Hot Rocks case.. it has a temperature display and the LEDs change color with the temperature to give you a visual warning if it gets too hot.
