Homebrew Wii U Hacking Beginner

So I'm the new, happy owner of a wii U, and it has firmware 5.5.3, and just like all my other nintendo consoles, I want to get into homebrew, and wupinstaller and all that other junk. I would prefer a method where I didn't have to buy a game if possible. I say I need cfw because I don't know if I need it to run things like wup installer to back up all my Wii U games. Any help is appreciated.

theres a webexploit for 5.5.3 but your not getting consistency with it... really the best solution is to spend a few bux on a compatible haxchi game.

I'm not really one to care about consistency, but do I need it is the question, like is CFW a requirement for backing up my current wii U library? If so, whats the best cfw for 5.5.3?

i mean like really no good consistency.. but you dont need a cfw just a method of getting to the homebrew launcher to load a dumper if thats what your after

I ask about cfw because I mainly deal with 3DS homebrew, and cfw was essencially a requirement for anything.
