My Wii shuts down as soon as my remote disconnects. What AM I going to do? I didn't have this problem with my other Wii.

    Edit

Scratch that: I was setting the default IOS for TMNT when it shut down. I was using my remote when I did this. It seems that the Wii shuts down right before the remote disconnects. Blah.

That's pretty weird. You sure the power button isn't stuck or something? Do you have another WiiMote you could sync instead so that you could confirm it's a hardware, not a software issue?

No it's not stuck. I do have another remote; I'll see what that does.

Completely disconnect the first WiiMote and use the Sync button to use the other WiiMote as the primary one, then try turning the Wii on with that WiiMote. That should give you a definite answer which part of the kit is the root of the problem. ;)

Okay, well my player 2 remote disconnected before player one's remote. I think it's just being weird. I guess as long as a remote is connected, it won't shut off. Of course, there was that one night when I had Metroid Prime up all night and my Wii didn't shut down...

I turned my Wii off and then reconnected the two remotes that way. The first one that came on was the one I was using before. The other remote came on too. It was the second one that turned off before the first one.

Have you tried hitting it? I've found that a good beating sometimes makes things work /horriblethingtosay

If the issue persists, I suggest the quickest way of fixing it - using ModMii to perform a quick re-mod. That's really the first thing that comes to my mind and seeing that the operation shouldn't take you longer than an hour and it's sure-fire, it's the best thing you can to do make sure that the issue is not rooted in software. I would tell you which IOS in particular controls connecting WiiMotes but I'm afraid that my memory isn't that great, so do wait for some other members to voice their opinions.

EDIT: Speaking of the devil, I was about to recommend contacting Joostin.

Okay; both of my remotes have disconnected and my Wii hasn't shut down yet. I knew this was a stupid post. Ugh; you better not mess up on me when I'm not playing a game with you, you remotes. Sounds like an attitude problem.

Eh, I guess I better post something of use then instead of making horrible jokes.

The code for the Wii remote is in every IOS, along with the software you are running. It doesn't switch IOS to handle the remote.

I don't think this is related the the remotes at all. Something is shutting down your Wii (it could be overheating, or there could be bad code), and your remote is shutting off an instant later when the connection is broken. What are you running, and how many times has this happened?

Ahahaha, I don't resort to that unless I'm super upset. I might try it out with my other Wii, though... and thanks for your recommendation, Foxie

It might be just hot; I've got them sitting on top of each other. I've never had this problem with them shutting off like this though. Maybe there is some bad code somewhere. Is there some way I can tell if it is bad code just in case it happens again?

Probably not. What app are you running?

Well I don't believe there is any file logging in that, and I highly doubt you have a USB Gecko (it's a discontinued product that devs use to debug code), so there isn't anything for it. It's not happening now though, so maybe it went away. Just post if it happens again.
