Hardware Wii Stopped Reading Dvd-R

hey all
i have a ntsc-u wii with wii-key installed
wii firmware 3.2U
heres whats going on
played wii the other day and all was well with my backups
turned the wii off to the red led
turned on the wii today and no dvd-r will work
originals work flawlessly
tried close to 20 dvd-r and no go
the wii never moves where its from
and no updates were taken

can anyone help
i also was wondering is there a way to disable and enable the wii-key

Your connections are broken. Open up the Wii and recheck them.

Yes but it happens.

Try to do like coolbho3000 said. Check all your wires.

Yes you can put a on / off switch between it(many people did this for playing orginal brawl) but with the 1.9s update you can also play the orginal brawl.

Its strange because Im in the same situation. Was playing a few games ok last night....popped in mario kart for the first time and it said unable to read...now all my disks dont read apart from originals.

I dont have a tool to open mine either and check the wires

I was lucky
I found a tri wing driver locally here in god ol newfoundland
local installer gave up modding
but you can buy them on the net for quite cheap

well i took apart my wii today and checked the wii-key
and all was good, i checked all the wires for continuity and they were good too
so i tried melting the solder to see if maybe the connections were bad there
anyhow it still wont read dvd-r backups
the last thing i did with it was to take the 1.9s wii-key update

just a thought but for some reason could my wii-key be fried
is so does anyone know how to check it
and also is there anything out to make a homemade chip like you could for the xbox

did you use the wiikey config 1.4 to uodate your settings after the update 1.9s??

it should do the trick!!

it doesnt read dvd-r at all
and yes i used the config
but this all happend a couple of weeks after

I also did the same yesterday...Checked my wiikey and everything is fine with the connection

Its strange that a number of people are reporting the same issue

i have the same problem to , it stil reads the wii backups , but when i go to disc channel and start the game it says its a Disc Read Error ..but original wii games and gamecube games can be played and so te gamecube backups can be played , and my wii wont even read Guitar hero anymore

i tried resoldering and even tried openwii on an attiny 2313
and both are a no go
also tried cleaning the lens
