Hardware Wii Remote and 'Chuck region

I noticed that on this site they have Wii Remotes and Nunchuck's in stock and cheap shipping to the US, but it says for Japan Wii....

Are they really region locked? I mean, I can understand the games not working, but the controllers not being compatible? I would think they would work with any system.

There are US versions listed on the site but of course they are out of stock:

Controllers for the Wii are not regionlocked. I once asked the Scandinavian distributor of Nintendo, and they confirmed this. Besides, I'm using US Wii Remotes on my EU Wii, and a friend of mine uses a Japanese Classic Controller on his EU Wii/Wii Remote

wands are not locked. i use 1 JAP wand on a US system

Ive got a PAL machine and got a jap mote from play asia and it works with no problem at all,
works fine with games and is full of mii's and took to a friends and transfered them over fully
operational!
