I'm a noon to Wii hacking and was wondering what's the best way to get a recently updated Wii console to be able to play downloaded games ? Preferably a USB thumb drive method if possible

Use LetterBomb for the exploit.
Then use CFG USB loader for game backups. Or use WiiFlow, either one works fine.

You can find video tutorials online for that stuff. Not really that hard. You just need an SD card, a computer, and 15mins of your time.

Or use USBLoader GX, But you have to install CIOS's before you can do any usb loading

That and there is tons of Wii tutorials elsewhere. I recommend using ModMii and following its instructions.
