I work semi-solo. I only add people to my team if I know they won't run off on the group, get lazy or going for the fame. None of these things are what I want in a group and I work quietly so noobs don't go around bugging and demanding something they aren't entitled to.

Many translations end because of people getting too busy with their life and not letting someone else finish what they started, noobs attacking them/demanding, they aren't getting enough fame so they throw a hissy fit or they don't have the right tools/doesn't know enough Japanese.

My question is, if someone really want a game that badly, why not learn the language or learn rom hacking?

that is the reason i learn japanese..
so i do no need to suffer from the pain

Well, first and foremost a language isn't very easy to learn and most people just do not have the time dedicated to doing so. You say to just "learn" the language but unless your some sort of sponge that soaks up information it would be very hard to do so. Don't get the wrong idea, I think that it is definitely possible to learn it but it's not just about reading a book and you already know the language. You have to experience people talking Japanese, talk to them, study. Those are not easy things to accomplish. To be able to be fluent in Japanese it will take years.

What does that have to do with anything? I never said it would be easy, it took me years to get where I am in Japanese, but it was well worth it. Sitting there complaining and demanding a patch isn't going to make it appear, so why not take the necessary time to learn the language? Japanese isn't going anywhere, it's not going to "all of a sudden" wipe off the face of the planet, so take the time to learn it. Japanese games also, aren't going anywhere, so the best thing to do is be patient and learn the language. Japanese may take a while, but you can still learn rom hacking, get a few translators and translate the game. Both solutions are better than complaining for a translation.

I agree with phoenix. I mean there is no point trolling at hackers/translators, if your fed up with it then do it yourself. I think the same thing about the 3ds and people not buying it just because if it won't get hacked. These kind of people kind of get me really pissed off.

..Why are people so pissed that people are at least trying to hack games and experimenting. Okay, so if they just start and stop again at 0% completion, then that's fair enough... But a lot of the time, one team that starts a translation project often inspires another one to continue it/hands it on to someone else. Or maybe it might get picked up again in the future?

Its a hell of a lot better than NO ONE starting any projects just because they possibly might not finish it..

And anyway, us noobs who can't really translate or hack shouldn't complain... if you want it done, learn and do it yourself? Or try out the games that have already been translated..

..This isn't targetted at the OP btw, he was just asking a normal question and that's fair enough

EDIT: Dammit.. two other people just posted as well.. xD

Most of them are teens too i guess xD, i myself bought the ds because of all those flashcarts out there but surely i bought real games and repaired my ds to atleast show nintendo that i gave them some support

. Don't think i can really comment on this topic because what that needed to be said has already been said. I guess translating is the same as when you make a game with RPG maker XP. I usally lose interest when i cant find how to make the event or animations go after how i wanted it to go.

I know it's because of the lack of interest you get in the game after you twork on it for a while. And, it might also be that your translation resulted from a snap decision xD
I'm willing to bet that half of the dropped projects were only created to gain fame. Oh hell yeah.

this thread is awesome and yes everyone that translates a game thinks that they are going to "ship" a final product at retail store and then when they realise how hard it is they drop it and blame something technical like compression or something like that

Don't speak for us, cause it's not what I think when I translate.
Go try translating and tell me how easy it is.

...just because you don't hear progress updates or anything from a lot of the projects, doesn't mean they are dead. Maybe they are too busy to do so, or like myself, do not care to waste time updating a thread, just to have people bitch and moan. And what on earth are you talking about? no fan translation is going to end up as a product in a retail store. >.>; (there may have been the odd occurrence or two, but certainly this is not the norm)

You may want to actually think before posting next time.
