Hacking Why Are These Games Freezing?

I just got my DS Lite today. I flashed a new R4DS w/ the new 1.12 English firmware, and loaded it w/ a 2gb Sandisk MicroSD card that was formatted with FAT filesystem and 32k clusters.

It was my first time using an R4DS and here's the list of games that worked and did not work:

Cooking Mama 2 = WORKED
Dementium - The Ward = FREEZES after you hit Start
Mario Kart DS = WORKED
Mario Party DS = WORKED
Contra 4 = FREEZES randomly after few seconds of play
Deal or no Deal = FREEZES after choosing gametype
Flash Focus = WORKED
Mario 64 DS = WORKED

Do I need to do that ARM7 patchfix for the games that froze? Or did I format my microsd memory incorrectly?

Are you trimming your roms? Because they should all work fine with the latest firmware without any patching.

Nope. I'm not trimming the roms. I'm just drag-n-dropping them via Windows Explorer.

I'm going to try many different dumps of the games right now (if I can locate them). If they work then I guess the dumps I had tried previously were corrupt.

Try Firmware 1.11
I've heard it has some bug in 1.12 and may random freeze on some games.

Yeah, if I were you, I'd stick with 1.11 since it's very stable, and 1.12 is crap anyway.

Just changed firmware to 1.11 and in all honesty, it's now WORSE!

Menu freezes just to get to the main R4 screen randomly now.

I'm going to try to reformat the microsd card w/ FAT16 and default cluster size and see if that helps.

I hope 1 of the 2 isn't defective...

I just tried those games with the exact same card and formatting as you, and everything worked fine. Contra played fine and Dementium worked perfectly. Maybe your card is defective.
