I just want to play 3ds games as close as to the real games and able to play online. I don’t need mods, hacks etc. What is the best way to go ?

Install B9S and Luma3DS using this guide:
https://3ds.hacks.guide/

After that, you can download the CIA files for the games you want and install them using FBI. They will run like they are legitimate, and you can play online with them.

Would this allow me to play both ds and 3ds games or just 3ds

All 3DS games and some DS games. For DS games, a cheap DS flashcart is recommended.

Edit: Just checked the DS compatibility list for the first time in over a year, and it has gotten much better. You can play most DS games.

Ah, thanks. Is there a video tutorial that shows how to complete all the necessary process? I read over the tutorial before and there are so many terms/ processes that I don’t understand.

Video tutorials are not recommended since they often become outdated very quickly.

Okay, I will buckle down and read the tutorial a few more times to understand it. Would a flash cart also work for playing 3ds games ?

If you want to play 3DS games online, you need CFW. Follow the guide. It's not hard. Let us know if you need help.

There are flashcart options, but playing online with them is not recommended. They are also expensive and not worth the trouble.

Ok, I will go the cfw route. So all I need is a SD card ? If later on I get a new 3ds, can I move the same SD card over to my new 3ds?

The only physical thing you need is an SD card, yes. If you get a new 3DS, you will need to reinstall all of your CIA-installed games on the new 3DS. You will have to use a homebrew application like Checkpoint to transfer the save files over. Legitimate items can all be transferred from one 3DS to the other using a system transfer.

To transfer my saves using checkpoint, do I need both my 3ds on hand and hacked ? Or does checkpoint saves everything to the SD card and I don’t need both 3ds on hand .

Doing the Checkpoint method would require that both systems are hacked. Alternatively, a system transfer will transfer the save files from one 3DS to the other without having to hack the second 3DS, but you will need a legitimately purchased copy of the game if you're not going to hack the second 3DS.

For check point, do I need both of my 3ds on hand ? Or can I save all my stuff from my old 3ds onto checkpoint, sell the old 3ds and then buy a new 3ds and hack it and move the saves over ?

You can backup your save files and keep them safe somewhere on your computer or SD card. Then, you can put the save files onto your new 3DS later. You don't need the old 3DS on hand if you have the save files backed up already.

CFW is cheap and convenient to play 3ds games already, as to the flashcard option, sky3ds+ is the answer, but it's very espensive, like 60 to 70 US Dollars.
