Hacking Where should I start with a ps3 ?

I have a CECHK01 ps3 coming in Monday with an 80gb hdd. It is already jailbroke with webman mod 4.82 but I'm wondering if I should just pop another drive in it and then reload mods etc.

I have an external 1tb fat 32 drive I use for wii , gamecube storage can I just use that for ps3 stuff also ?

Or should I buy a new external usb or just upgrade the internal with a 1tb or so ? I would like to play some ps2 games but I don't know if it's possible with this model. Or is it possible since it's modded?

I know it's a lot of questions thanks for any help.

Depends on how many games you want to install, 1TB is enough space if you want to install like 20-30 games or so, average game size is like 20-30 GB , you can always run ISO off an external, as for PS2 games, they need to run off internal I believe.

The external drive will work fine.Make sure the games are in folder format inside the GAMES folder on the root and they will show up on webman.

Is the ps3 picky about ntfs usb drives or am I missing something?

I got the ps3 in and tested out two games on a small fat32 usb eventually blind figuring it out.

I have not decided to get an external or internal hard drive yet. I have some games obviously that are greater then 4gb and was unsure about wanting to transfer them via ftp vs just on an external drive.

Right now most are game folders it seems but I also have some I would like to back up of my physical if possible I haven't found yet Like the ratchet series I own and few other.

I don't know the order of mods yet but I have a feeling I will need a bigger hard drive but I want to watch prices for now. I have a 4.82 fw fat ps3 but I'm unsure about grabbing the cfws and such right now.

Or would a back up and flash of ofw 4.82 and then a restore be the correct procedure?

Old Phantom 2tb green drive that is maybe half full vs getting a new WD 1tb or just a new 1tb firecuda internal and leave my laptop FTPing once I figure out how to reload things?

I personally would stream PS3 ISO from a NAS or PC using ps3netsrv. If you go for USB the it's only USB2, compared to gigabit ethernet.

PS2 ISO will only work from internal disk, which is why I tend to use a slim PS2 and stream PS2 ISO from my NAS to that instead.

I did the whole folder format back in the psjailbreak days, when a game contains tens of thousands of small files then they take forever.

Nope, I am using ntfs usb drive for my PS3 for over 8 years and don't have a problem.

You can directly install cfw on the new drive as the console is already modded and I'd use the latest versions of the apps from https://store.brewology.com/

Yeah Rex 4.82.x or Ferrox 4.83 - Both running good.

Seems to be working. I got it running with Rex and managunz just for tonight. I'll have to look up about getting ps1/2 games running and few other things tomorrow or sometime.
I'm eyeing this for the internal once I feel the need to get a major upgrade to hdd. It's 5400 but also has a bit of ssd cache.
