It's only useful for cfw without emunand, or to play 9.6+ games on new 3ds as 9.5.0-23> emunand doesn't work on new 3ds

Is useful with emunand too. To launch one emunand with firmware upper of the sysnand you need to use firmlaunch.

Still don't quite understand. But lets say a new game requires firmware 10 (assume cryptofix is not required), N3DS with sysnand 9.2 and emunand 9.5 can play the game because of firmlaunch ?

yes....
but may not if there is new update patch for the game. (In order to play with the patch, the patch has to the modified one)

Ex:
Firm Emblem IF game itself is playable with firmlaunch on N3DS 9.5 emu, but with official 1.1 update patch, u can't. You have to use an update patch which modify and repack into .cia by some nice ppl.

We were told emuNAND cannot use firmlaunch, as it cannot load 9.6+ firmwares. Is the game patched and run on the 9.5 firm withouth firmlaunch or firmlaunch works on emuNAND?

firmlaunch is the spoof thing on 3ds side.... u can just do a firm spoof when u made the .cia file, but the update patch firm spoof is not that easy though.
