I have downgraded three times so far. My 3DS (10.3) and other two from my friends (10.3 and 10.6). No problem at all. All them worked on the first atempt.

All the times before downgrading I formatted the 3DS and the SDCard. It seems to work better I guess.

Go for it, i've downgraded and installed a9lh (which has more risk of brick) on several 3DS and i've had 0 problems. In my opinion it's pretty secure if you read all the instructions and follow the tutorials step by step.
