could be the dvd thing... HOWEVER... i heard that you need an sd card inserted in the wii EVEN if you wanna read from the Usb. how dumb 
oh and by the way, i never got usb to read. tried all wad manager versions, and no go. dont waste your time homie.

I always have an SD card in my wii. Its how I select the Wad Manager app from the HBC.
At first I thought it was because I didnt format my USB properly as it used to work fine, but I guess it was the DVD lib thing.
