Hello,

So I have an OG switch that is able to be modded and have CFW. I have.some experience modding a 3DS, Wii U, PS Vita, etc. But, I heard that modding the Switch is a little different. I've found a video and guide to go through while modding my Switch,. I.do have a couple of questions though.

About RCM, is there another safe alternative to use other than the RCM jig that I can purchase? I saw some others have used tinfoil, but I am not sure.

Also, when I have finished modding my Switch, is it relatively easy to manage? For example, adding game backups, finding your saves/other game files, updating, and playing online? Can it be a bit overwhelming? Or is it comparable to the 3DS as far as difficulty goes?

What are the benefits of modding your Switch? And, what can one do?

I would love to hear your advice and any information. Thank you!

Personally I'd say that an RCM jig is your best bet, it only costs a few bucks and is more efficient and painless compared to using a paperclip or tinfoil alternative where you have to shape it to work.

I think game backups can be relatively easy enough depending on what you are using, for myself I use tinfoil and it has worked out well so far for me at that. If you have any experience with .cia files then .nsp files will be easy for you.

I think finding your game files or saves shouldn't be too hard honestly, as for updating you just mainly have to find and replace the cfw on your micro-cd card when the time comes, again not too hard to update that and sigpatches anyhow.

As for playing online there are certain precautions like emunand and 90 dns that can help but my advice is that you have to be smart in that regard, and nothing can be truly foolproof, and if you can't handle the risk of getting an online ban then don't jailbreak (imo).

The benefits of hacking a Switch is having more freedom/customization that Nintendo is very strict about, for example you can install multiple cool themes, get unofficial emulators like retroarch and play more NES-N64 era stuff without Nintendo's shitty online service, get fan games and I can go on.

Point is that bottom line unless if you are worried about the possible chance of getting banned modding a switch is completely worth doing in my opinion and will find a lot more things to do with the Switch.

But that's just me personally, try getting advice from multiple people and do your research understanding the benefits and risks before hacking your Switch.

If you don't know what you're doing, a jig is your safest option. Its designed to fit into the railing so unless the maker messed up, it is pretty effective & not very harmful. However you should still enable AutoRCM after that so you not only have a 100% guaranteed way of entering RCM but you don't run the risk of damaging your Switch with the jig.

The ease of managements falls on the user so its completely subjective. If you don't manage your stuff regularly, obviously it will seem difficult.

There are way too many benefits to even begin listing when it comes to Switch hacking. The only thing you potentially lose is online play which can be simulated with LAN play so its not even a total loss.

Thanks for the information! I'm nearly done, I think, modding my Switch using the switch.home guide. I am just at the DNS part.

So when I finish modding, is it possible to play online like normal without being banned if I have followed the part of the guide that helps prevent it? Can I download DLC as well? Also, where do game saves go if you have cfw on your Switch?

You risk a ban if you go online after using CFW/homebrew.
