Let me start by saying that I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to find a fix for something. There is a lot of effort going into this so I think that everybody would agree that this is worth at least looking into.
There seems to be an issue with the quality of the covers I get off the database. I have a big fancy TV and most of the boxart I get from the site looks very grainy. If I make the same boxart with the same dimensions, it comes out to a smaller file size and looks better on my TV. There are several probable causes for this
1 The original source of the image was crappy.
2 The uploader didn't know what they were doing. (but I still appreciate the effort)
3 A poor batch program was used to convert the images.
4 The zipping process has taken away from the quality.
If any of the first 3 are the cause, implementing a way to re-upload/replace boxart could fix it. Even if we only fix one pic at a time, it will still eventually get done. If It's the fourth, then getting rid of the zipping process would do it.
Here's what I'm talking about...
The top image is one I pulled from the site, the bottom I made in photoshop from a pic off google images. Look at the guy's right arm, left leg, and hair- also the trees in the BG on the left. The difference is not terrible in this pic, but just imagine it on a big ass TV.
I am willing to help fix these if you guys think it is as important as I do.
