Gaming Uncharted 3 Discussion

So I'm on my second play through of the game, and at the beginning, during the london underground level, when you're trying to escape, i noticed that the game had apparently cheated, and that those sniper guys with the laser sights in smoke in the background, are actually those smokeless fire demons that you briefly encountered at the end when drake was crazy. Was this done on purpose or do you think it was laziness on Naughty Dog's end?
