Hacking Two Questions

So, I set up the HBC and Backup Launcher and stuff on my friend's Wii for him, but I've run in to two problems:

1) For MadWorld, the Backup Launcher gives the 002 error. Do I just need a later version of the Backup Launcher, or is it something else? (the one I had was the first channel version that was released, I think)
2) What updates are needed to play Brawl (the actual disc)? I had to downgrade him from 3.3, and since that, Brawl's been nagging him to update.
