Once there is a way to play backups without a modchip, this thread will be changed to explain how.

Would a moderator please sticky this so new people will stop asking.

Wait, so my unmodded wii can't play backups?

On a more serious note, the OP is just attempting to get the point across to the various people who continue to ask the same questions over and over.

I don't know about you guys but I tire of answering these questions and in fact have ceased to do so for fear of flaming the individuals.

ummm....

k?

I think it is more correct to say "THERE IS NO WAY TO PLAY BACKUPS WITHOUT A MODCHIP ... yet".

It is going to happen eventually.

Here's what's going to come in a couple months from now:

- Ability to play backups from DVD without modchip
- Ability to play backups from USB, SD or WiFi without modchip

You only need to create an IOS replacement module for the DI module, which in turn reads from DVD (such as DVD library recently released), or USB or SD or WiFi.
This of course means that you can only install IOS replacement modules aslong as Nintendo doesn't stop homebrew code from running (like system menu 3.3 but fortunately it failed in that).

Reverse engineering the DI and SD modules is possible within a limited time frame as those modules aren't very big.
So you're probably going to see games playing from DVD or SD without modchip first.

Nitrotux hit the nail on the head. This was a pointless topic, because im sure soon enough there will be a way to play backups from a DVD on a non modded wii.

What he said.... jinx is gonna look like a complete tool in just a few months/weeks. The reason people are asking this a lot lately is because they have at least half a brain in their head. A dvd reading library that works on unmodded wiis was just released. That's like 2 steps away from unmodded backups! Don't get mad at people for drawing a logical conclusion based on the info available to them.
