For the updates, aren't they usually in a .nsp format even if the base is in .xci? As far as I understand, .nsp can't be used with the mig switch, right?

Can anyone with a mig switch confirm this behavior? (Beeing able to play even without an update & beeing able to update as long as the switch is not banned)

You don’t need the update unless you accidentally accept it in the future and continue your game on that updyae

Until then you can just ignore the update prompts

I believe that you will be able to play the game unless it requires an update to even work properly to begin with. Most of the games that I've downloaded in MIG Switch supported format did come with an update so they'll probably be playable on the latest firmware. Sadly, I can't really confirm any of this as I'm yet to buy MIG Switch or similar.


You might be able to grab them while your console is still not banned, but I can't say for sure either. I know that you can update your games by matching the game version with another Switch in a local network. provided that the other Switch has that game with the latest update (that's where modded Switches are quite useful).

You should reconsider getting your switch banned. Any games you bought on the eShop will not redownload to it if it's banned. This is something I regret for having bought some eShop games without physical cards being made. Or the price was great. Anyway,I got a mig too and thought it would complement my modded switch. Rather than buying a larger SD card,I would use a second SD card in the mig to place games I had legit copies of and essentially extend the space available on my 1tb card to include the migs SD card. And you know what? I don't use it!it's a pain in the rear, since I already dumped my eShop and physical games. I didn't want to go back and download the three other files necessary to the mig.

So I bought a mig switch and I got a few games (torrented ones) on it,

Some games require an update like Super Smash Bros and I've looked around the forum to see if there is any way to update it while being banned (you can't).

But when I was downloading the same game as an XCI file to use on Yuzu, it included all the DLCs and updates.

My question is, since I got for Smash bros all the certs and the .xci, can I replace the XCI with the one that has the latest update and all DLCs?

Or will it not work due to different certs and allat?

It will not work because the copy of Smash you are using for Yuzu that has all the DLC and updates is an artificial .XCI file. In other words, someone modified the original .XCI file to include all of the updates and DLC. Mig Switch can only read unmodified .XCI files.

Not banned yet, but I don't really care about the ban. I just wanted to know if it were possible to replace a .xci with a different one that contains the newest update,DLCs and allat.

I can only speak for myself but I didn't really care at the time and put a pirated game on my switch and booted it up online. Instantly banned. I can't play online, I can't update games and I can't enter the e-shop. Couldn't care less. Had a great time on the seven seas and looking forward to more of the same with the Switch 2.

If I have an OLED that I was playing online, but now that Switch 2 is coming out I don't care if the consoles itself gets flagged, can I just sign out of my profile, delete my profile from the switch, and then start using the MIG Switch and let the console get flagged without it affecting that account? So I can buy Switch 2 later, sign in with that account, and then continue playing online?

AFAIK Nintendo will never ban the account itself

Huh, that's interesting. So I could leave it signed in just fine? I just wont' be able to update games, play online, update console firmware, or do anything that requires taking the console online after it is flagged?

Once the ban hits you won’t be able to update anything most likely

Idk what kind of ban they are handing out since Im not pirating MiG games, but when my switch was banned I was still able to download updates for a bit
