Ok silly question I assume by doing this spoofing this just means we have a base firmware to then run the custom launcher etc over which I then need to install etc?
The basic idea is to update to official 6.61 in one way or another (you didn't say your console model, because if it supports CIPL hellcat's recovery flasher or a pandora battery would have been guaranteed options for getting to 5.00 without any gimmicks like this 9.90 one), once you get there you can mod as if it were a clean console (because it will be!)

If you're still having trouble with the methods already posted, here's an alternate method to get back to 5.50 OFW from GEN D3 5.50.

Requirements:
- Gen D3 installer (it includes options to revert to official firmware)
- 5.50 OFW eboot

1. Copy the Gen D3 installer to the GAME folder.
2. Copy the OFFICIAL 5.50 eboot to the root of the memory stick. Rename to "550.PBP"
3. Launch the Gen D3 installer on your PSP.
4. Select the option to "Flash Install OFW 5.50"
Note: it's NOT the option to "install any official Sony firmware."

Thanks could you please tell me where I can find a link to the original 5.50 FW

Ok so I'm back again with the same issue

I have created the version.txt file as suggested above

In recovery I have version.txt

When I then run the 6.6.1 firmware update I still get the message you are on FW 9.9 no need to update?

Help

I have found the 5.50 GEN D3 fw
Does anyone have the official 5.50 fw eboot file?

Thanks for this I managed to find the files and ran the process which out the PSP back to 5.50 OFW.
It's now letting me start the process of modding to infinity
