Hacking SysNAND/EmuNAND Seperation Question

I have a Gateway and was wondering about updating my EmuNAND. The thing is, I am not sure if SysNAND and EmuNAND are really separated, both are the same FW version. I don't want to accidentally update SysNAND... Is there a way to go about doing this and to make sure they are separated? Thoughts/help appreciated

You can update your emunand even with linked nands, it doesn't matter.

The only benefit is being able to visit the E-Shop (Which wouldn't matter in emuNAND anyways since you can just download everything online) or getting rid of the update nag in emuNAND if that annoys you. That's all I can think of besides maybe a game update that you may need at some point... which you can also just download in CIA format anyways.

No, it's only useful for amiibos, the theme shuffle feature and downloading updates directly from the menu. (but you must run freemultipatcher first)
