I've got a WiiU v5.3.2 here. I don't know anything about its history.
It won't update, throwing a 105-3102 error. Going with vanilla internet settings doesn't fix it. Neither does factory resetting. I suspect the update folder was removed.
The browser exploit works for getting into the Homebrew Launcher.

I'm not too knowledgeable about WiiU's, other than the many threads I've read trying to fix this.

I'd appreciate a recommended course of action to get this thing updated. Thanks.

to my knowledge, if you use ftp with your wii u, you should be able to create the update folder anew even if it has been removed previously. try to see if you have the homebrew launcher, and which other homebrew do you have, then add the ftp homebrew, and follow a guide "to block updates" but in reverse.
a search got me to find this gbatemp post, which might be useful at first glance:

I've looked into this, but haven't found an FTP server that will do it.
FTPiiu Everywhere requires CFW such as mocha to access the nand.
Also, the original FTPiiu can't access the nand.

Yes to access the mlc you would need an IOSU exploit to load a cfw to enable access to system files.
But what you can do with only ppc user mode is installing all the titles manually:

You can download both the SLC and the MLC titles with the MLC Restorer Downloader: https://github.com/Xpl0itU/MLCRestorerDownloader/releases
And then install them with WUP Installer GX2 Mod: https://hb-app.store/wiiu/wup_installer_gx2_mod

Should be 57 titles in total. I would recommend you select the OSv10 title (00050010-1000400A) first, so in case anything goes wrong you would still have the ability to use UDPIH.

Can you not run CFW on 5.3.2? The original owner must have done so to delete the folder in the first place. The easiest would probably be to run Mocha. Haxchi requires a DS game downloaded from the eShop, and TIramisu/Aroma requires a lot more setup (and may well not work on 5.3.2 since it's a lot more "invasive" in terms of modifications)
If you happen to already have a DS game that the previous owner downloaded, installing Haxchi would be simple though.

I don't think Mocha works with 5.3.2, based on what I've seen. I still tried it, and it doesn't hook in or display its splash screen.
There's no eShop games installed.
I believe Aroma/Tiramisu are only for later firmware too.

Thanks. I've looked into this, but it needs the otp.bin file from a nand dump to download the titles.
And, Nand Dumper just goes to a black screen and locks up the Wii. I guess bcs it's not made for the 5.3.2 web exploit.

How about this plan:
1. Infiltrate with UDPIH
2. Start WUPSERVER
3. Make the missing directory with WUPCLIENT

It just needs the common key from the otp.bin. the common key is common for all Wii Us, so you could get it from another Wii U...

Also UDPIH requires 5.5.x

@SDIO I sincerely appreciate your help!
I've been researching more into this.
How do I get v5.3.2 MLS/SLC files from MLC Restorer Downloader?
I'm not sure what version it downloaded, so I presume they're the latest--and I think that could lead to a brick?
