Is it just me or installing a .pkg file from the PS3's HDD is faster than from an external HDD? The counterpart is that it takes some time FTPing the .pkg files to PS3's HDD but it may be worth it.

installing a PKG via the internal HDD is way faster than from an external HDD's FAT32's root folder.
SATA 1: 1500 Mbps (theoretical)
1500/2 (reading and writing from the same device) = 750 Mbps
USB 2: 480 Mbps (theoretical and with even more overhead involved)
Not very surprising :)

But I recommend not gearwanking over speed - go eat something, have a walk or shower, or sleep and it's a non-issue :)

Thanks. So, that means games will have less lag and install game data faster if they're run from the PS3's HDD than from USB.

Sorry, but why does reading and writing from the same device split the speed in half?
