What about the Asus DGX?
doesn't look like a bad choice either

On paper it looks to be a valid competitor, but there also have been reviews about the annoying driver problems with Asus' sound cards in general, which troubles me. Then again, there were also the same thing with Creative sound cards

looking through newegg's user review, the asus card got more favorable review's, And for that price point, I don't think you should consider the audigy Fx as it doesn't use a creative chip.

What of the Rx? It seems most like the X-Fi, which is my current sound card. I can personally attest to how good the X-Fi is.

I just know that the Recon3D is a joke. The Z series seems to have been made as an apology for its mistakes by comparison.

For me, the clincher will be how good GX 2.5 is compared to ALchemy from Creative... I do a lot of older games that rely on EAX and DirectSound, and ALchemy has so far proven fool-proof in easily handling the patching duty to make them work and sound as they should again on a modern OS.

There is Xonar Unified Driver, which is an unofficial driver that solved a lot of problem with official ASUS driver.

For what it's worth, Creative sound card gave me more trouble than Xonar unified driver.
