my old thread: fixing my old hard drive

MY WII GAMES WON'T WORK! I got it converted and all, but now i got a new issue. also i should probably update usb loader gx & homebrew to its newest version. i just wanted to play mario kart T_T

Update 5/24/24: used wbfs2fat converter on hard drive, worked! but its telling me to double check it all and idk how to do that.
  • also, once i get all this working, do i just go into wiiware sites and grab games? i know the wii vault at vimm's is good.
  • i wonder if there's a way to get a 100% complete file of some games? I only want to do this with all the rhythm games.
  • Will the final update kill my harddrive/homebrew? what can i do so it doesn't do that?

If the drive only holds the game .wbfs images, why not just start over again? Formatting the drive, put a new version of USB Loader GX on it and transfer a fresh Mario Kart .wbfs to it with Wii Backup Manager?

And this I already said in the other topic:
The check is mainly a file system check like "chkdsk" according to the guide "finishing touches".

So far I know Wiiware games are .wad files you'll need to install using a WAD manager. Disc-based games mostly are in .wbfs format already, you can use the Wii Backup Manager to transfer them to the hard disk.

100% complete save files for most games can be found at Gamespot (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/). After downloading you can use something like "SaveGame Manager GX" to install them on the console. It requires you to at least start the game once until the point it creates a save file before you can install one.

this is a 12 year old drive with all my info on it -_- i don't wanna lose it.

What kind of info? If it was previously formatted in WBFS file system, I suppose it only can hold game images. Most of those game images (.wbfs files) can be downloaded quite easily at the right places nowadays. Although it makes a difference when we are talking about 20 or 200 games. If it's not too much, I really think re-download the images and start with a fresh drive is really easier.

Your game saves and Mii's are probably not on the hard drive, but on the internal memory of the Wii console.

I didn't said anything like that :O :(

In short I was only suggesting to update the softmod because it's maybe too old to work with FAT32 otherwise.

And if that doesn't help it probably is easier to format and start fresh with the hard drive. Because it was previously formatted in WBFS filesystem it probably only contained (downloaded?) game images and nothing other valuable/irreplaceable.

ugh i give up on this forum. everyone just highkey calls me a dumbass for not knowing this thing when i got it...when i wasn't the one who originally did the hard drive stuff.
Huh? If you find somebody calling you dumbass, there is a report button below each post for that since personal attacks are against the rules.

Keep calm. :) Text medium is more prone to misunderstandings than other forms of communication. Better assume the least proiblematic interpretation of any given statement.
Generally we do try to help each other on this forum and with few exceptions people behave okay (if you keep away from the politics section).

Now back to topic: Could you provide a Syscheck?

the files could be recovered as long as long as they are not over written. Puran file recovery is one i use. even if the drive lost its partition you can still try and scan it for files. If its encrypted then yeah, thats a no go.
