i have an old hp a706n and have it hooked up to a 26" tv and was wondering what i would have to do in order to get it to run at a widescreen resolution

Did you try changing display settings? Right click your desktop and then go to the Display tab.

yes i even installed a new driver for the built in graphics card but the resolution doesn't change to what it could go to
